Not Really a Diet

  • Ok I know what your thinking "No diet? This girl has got to be nuts." But let me tell you why. Just the word Diet makes me want to eat. So this is my plan this time around.
    Life time changes.
Yep thats it no diet for me. I tried WW. Sure I lost weight at first but that was not a "Life time change" I couldn't live with it for more then three months. I never was full. I ate all the time with that diet but could not eat what I wanted and way to much bread.
I have done several other diets but none would keep the weight off.
So here is my plan this time around.
Walking. I walk five days a week. 30 min on weekdays and 2 miles on Sat. With a chart I well be up to 20 odd miles a week in 7 months.
Along with the walking I am drinking water and I make at least one smart food choice a day then dont worry about it the rest of the day. When that becomes second nature to me Ill add anouther life time change to my life.
I know this way well be super slow but I have to have a program that well work and not fail and I think this well work.
I have been walking for two weeks. Lost 3 pounds already. My walking partner has lost 6. (She is larger then I am so lost more.)
I love this site and hope to use some of the recipes soon.
I think all of you that can and have used "Diets" have a lot of will power and should all have a metal for doing it.
Sorry for the long post. Any tips for making water drinkable?
  • Hi Angie, Have you read any of the non-dieting books out there? There are many, and some are very good. They all pretty much say the same thing, and if you want to read just one to get the idea of what they say and how they work, check out 'Intuitive Eating' by Tribole and Resch at your library. Or read what they show at Amazon.com

As to making water drinkable, make a taste test. Go to your store and buy several brands of water, then taste them side by side. Some are quite good. I selected Sparkletts as my water of choice because it tastes good to me, is commonly available, and is inexpensive. I live in the West and water from the tap is undrinkable taste-wise. Good luck to you, Jan.
  • I don't "diet" either. I HATE the word diet and refuse to ever go on one. Like you I made lifestyle changes, and now I think I live a very healthy life. It took several years to really get it down, and the weightloss was slow until recently when I was able to add weight training to my lifestyle, but it's been totally worth it! It's second nature! I can eat anything I "want", because what I "want" is healthy stuff! I love it! :P

As far as non-diet books, try reading the Dr. Phil weightloss solution book. He helps you identify when and how you use food in negative ways (to drown emotions or to "reward" yourself, etc.) and gives you tips on how to break those habits and gradually add better lifestyle choices to your daily routine. It's really helped me drop my post-baby pounds, and it's not a "diet".
