SBD and All Bran

  • Just wondering, is All Bran okay in Phase 2?? When I was on Weight Watchers I would mix 1/2 cup of All Bran with 1/2 of yogurt and that really worked well for Breakfast, but I don't knot if it's okay for the SBD..
  • From the Phase II List in the FAQ
    Quote:
    Cereal
    - Choose whole grain and slow-cooking varieties (no instant types) with 6-8 grams of fiber or more per serving
    - Hot- 1/3-1/2 cup, uncooked
    - Cold - 30 grams/1 ounce/3/4 cup
  • I like to mix cottage cheese with yogurt and top it with some Fiber One (14 gms of fiber). Occassionally, although it's not SB approved, I'll top it with 1/4 cup of Kashi Go Lean Crunch granola cereal.

  • UGH! I thought I read somewhere that Special K was SBD approved. I was so looking forward to that when I hit phase 2 again. Oh well I guess I'll stick with my oatmeal! lol
  • So we can have GoLean and Good Friends...hmmm

I looked at them and thought too many carbs...smiling now
  • I found this on another South Beach web site. Looks like the guidelines have been changed to allow the new South Beach Kraft cereals.
    -----------------------------------------------
Other than that the "old" guideline was greater than or equal to 8 gms of fiber and less than or equal to 8 gms of sugar. However since the new SB approved cereals by Kraft didn't meet these guidelines, "they" took the only other course of action possible and revised the guidelines!!

    Here is the old/new comparison:

    Cereal (New Guideline)
Hot - 1/3 -1/2 cup, uncooked. Choose whole grain and slow-cooking varieties (no instant types).
Cold - 30 grams/1 ounce/3/4 cup. Varieties with 3.0 - 4.9 grams are “good” sources of fiber. “High” fiber cereals have 5.0 grams of fiber or more per serving. Choose a cereal with enough fiber to be at least on the upper end of “good,” and make sure it has less than 8 grams of sugar per serving.

    Cereal (OLD Guideline)
    - Choose whole grain and slow-cooking varieties (no instant types) with 6-8 grams of fiber or more per serving
    - Hot- 1/3-1/2 cup, uncooked
    - Cold - 30 grams/1 ounce/3/4 cup
  • Barb, at their changing the guidelines. Oy!

I'm shocked about the Kashi additions...they have lots of sugar...thought it was more than 8 g.

LC, Special K Low carb fits the requirements above. I should think you'd be free to enjoy it in Phase 2. Just stay away from the regular...too much sugar.
