Default Elipticals ~ a question

I have been thinking of getting an eliptical machine. Do any of you have an eliptical machine at home? What kind do you have ~ do you like it?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,
We purchased an elliptical machine after christmas, we got it at walmart for 160.00 on sale. not sure the exact name, but it works!! It has the moving arms, and it gives a good workout, the only thing I have a hard time with is sticking with it. I have a hard time staying on one machine for more than 20 minutes, I get bored easily. But it will work up a sweat, kinda similar to jogging and you can change the resistance to make it easier or harder.

Hi there. I bought an elliptical in January and I love, love, love it. It is an Infiniti - I think it is the ST950 model. I'm from Canada, so I'm not sure how available it is in the states. I paid $1000 CAD for it, and I have no regrets.

It has 12 programs, 2 heart rate programs, and a user program. I wanted a really good quality elliptical, but I didn't want to pay the price for a Precor. It feels really smooth, and gives a great workout. I'm 5'6", and it's a good size for me, it may be too small for someone taller.

I use it almost everyday, and it helps that it has so many programs. Also, it has a lifetime warranty. I read that you should really look at the warranty as a measure of quality - if doesn't have *at least* a one year warranty, I would think twice about buying it. Consumer reports did a review of ellipticals - I think one of the sisters posted it here somewhere - and three models built by ICON (Proform was one of them) got a lemon for poor quality. I think if you run a search for ellipicals on the exercise forum you can find the thread.

Hope that helps!

Hi Gayle,

I have the Orbitrek Platinum. I see that QVC now has it for $187. I bought mine for $200 with $30 S&H. I know that some local sports stores are carrying it now so you might want to check out one in your area and try out the different models to see what and if you like them before you buy one. I had an older Orbitrek before so I knew I would like the new one that's why I got it. I do get a great workout on it and it's well made. Good luck with your purchase!

I stuck the article on ellipticals to the top of this forum, maybe it will help

I bought a New Balance 8.0 elliptical and regret my purchase. It is really nice, but it doesn't "fit" my body. There are two types of ellipticals - with the wheel in the front, or the wheel in the back. Each feel completely different. I didn't try them out before I bought, I ordered blindly online. I tried to find the best model I could find that could be delivered via UPS. That was my only requirement, lol, and this was it. I live on a winding, dead end street, and freight trucks can't deliver to me, so the larger (better) ellipticals were not an option for me. I've since had a chance to try out the other style of ellpitical and couldn't believe the difference. It seemed to fit my body much better.

I had bought the elliptical as a replacement for my treadmill, which had died late last year. I didn't feel like I could get the same cardio, though. I finally bought a new treadmill in January and have hardly touched my elliptical since.

Try before you buy
