Yesterday I received my first order of Bakers Box Cookies. Each cookie is individually wrapped. I would like to know how you freeze the cookies? Do you just put them in a freezer bag and put in the freezer or do you unwrap them and rewrap in plastic wrap and then put in a freezer bag? I notice each package does have some air in it.
I tried one of the fruit and nut and it was wonderful. Why did I wait 2 years to try them????? I guess while in the 'losing' process I was afraid I would get out of control. Now that at goal I can better manage goodies.
I stick the cookies (wrapper and all) in a ziplock freezer bag. I get 4 per quart size bag. I leave most of them in the freezer in the basement and pull up one bag a week to the freezer in my kitchen. I've not noticed any deterioration in quality at all.
Some days I'll set them out to thaw, other days I'll microwave them for about 20-30 seconds. Every once in a while I'll eat them still partially frozen---they're very chewy that way!!
If you ordered them by the dozen (or 1/2 dozen) from Baker's directly they come in a plastic bag as well, individually wrapped, then stacked in a plastic bag. I just throw the whole bag in the freezer. You can also TOAST them -- even frozen. The new recipe is not very different from the old (I suspect they really only changed the size and label) and the two I've tasted (pumpkin and fruit/nut are NOT appreciably different from the "original." Unfortunately, I'm off them till Passover ends... so DARN! In any event, they freeze great and don't deteriorate at all.
I received my first order of the "new" BB cookies about a week ago, and was very disappointed. At least for the ones I ordered (apple cinnamon, chocolate chip raisin, oatmeal raisin) there was a noticable difference. The new ones looked almost burned; they were so dark, and they seem much greasier. With half the fiber content as before, plus being a tad smaller, they really don't seem as filling. I've always frozen mine two to a Ziploc, and then would bring a few out on the kitchen counter each week to defrost. Unfortunately, after the current batch is gone, I won't be ordering any more. They just aren't the same. Guess I'll go back to Zen muffins from TJs. They have twice the amount of fiber as the BB cookies now do!
the only kind i eat are the fruit and nut ones but the numbers have changed so drastically that i'm sorry that i've got six in my freezer right now. WAY less fiber than before and, with the new WW system, they cost far too many points to be enjoyable......
I swear, the recipe has NOT changed dramatically enough for us to think that the fiber is so much less than it used to be. I'm not necessarily questioning Baker's integrity, as much as I am questioning how the fiber was calculated BEFORE they were required to conform to government guidelines. The newer cookies are a bit stickier, but as far as fiber goes: I had some fruit/nut from the old recipe that I compared w/ my delivery from last week in the new recipe. There is no appreciable difference. Additionally, the weight of the two was almost the same. Just UNDER 4 ounces for the old, and a tad over 3.5 for the new... so, go figure. I think our expectations were that they were a "miracle" cookie in it's earlier rendition, and now that we have to count them as 4,5 or even 6 points, our glee has gone. Truth is, they were always that high, be we weren't acknowledging it. The pumpkin spice, fruit/nut, and apple cinnamon, so far (taste test side by side w/ old formula) can't tell the difference -- and I'm a former professional pastry chef... so, eat them and enjoy. E.
No, they're still using it. I think they finally learned how to either calculate it, or sent it to a more reliable laboratory. that, in concert w/ ww's new rules on fiber (no more than 4 grams being counted) had the more serious impact on the points for these "cookies."
are y'all getting the cookies w/ the nutritional labels?
i'm in seattle and the last bunch of cookies i bought had the nutritional contents label on the package. i don't have it with me, but i think the fruit and nut went like this:
290 calories
5 grams fat
5 grams fiber
doesn't this make the cookies almost 6 points each?? too rich for my blood...! i haven't been following the cookie posts too closely so this may old news for everyone else but i was disappointed for sure....
270 on the calories, fiber and fat correct. Makes the cookies 5 points each now. (which they probably were all along.) Still lower than a costco muffin. See my post on them!
