Default Thin4Life - January 25/04

Good morning. I know it's only Sunday but I'm anxious to start a new week. I weighed in yesterday and was up a pound. Guess those three slices of pizza Friday nite weren't such a good idea. I think I will try Fast Track, altho I may eat the APs given the running I'll be doing. The next two weeks are probably a good time to buckle down since I don't have any travel lined up.

It's -27 with the wind chill here this morning, so I've opted to run indoors on the treadmill today. I thought about going out with the group but I'm sure I would have encountered the same problem as Tuesday, given the temps.

Melissa: You've had amazing results - congratulations. You are so close to goal!

Domina: The cold alone isn't the problem - it's the wind that gets me - and it's always windy here.

lala: Hope you're having a most excellent weekend across the pond.

Susan, -27 (assume that's Celsius??). That's terrible. Yes, the wind makes it so much worse. The Fast Track plan sounds tough to me. Sorry about your pound. You'll lose it though as you train for your half-marathon.

Had a good weekend. Played golf on Friday and shot my first birdie; that was fun. There was a party on Saturday night--ate too much (what's new?) On Sunday, I went to rehearsal for a performance of Messiah which I'm in come March.

Hello to Melissa and lala.

Good morning!

My weekend was pretty crazy--flights were backed up with the snow on Friday so I didn't get into Chicago until 1:45 p.m. instead of the 9:30 a.m. arrival. Coming back yesterday was no picnic either--the storm that is supposed to hit us later today was pounding down on Cincinnati and the snow/ice/rain held us up 3 1/2 hours. They would get one side of the plane de-iced and go the other side only to have to go back and start over. We finally took off at 6:30 p.m. Needless to say, I'm really tired this morning!

Susan: With running I'd definitely eat the AP's and limit the Flex. See how you feel. It's probably better that you run indoors with the windchills as low as they are.

My eating wasn't the best yesterday--I came home over hungry, tired, stressed. I had dinner and then later on proceeded to dig into potato chips. Today is a fresh page in my journal and I'm back on track. I need to focus on my water since I was really bad in drinking a lot over the weekend.

Domina: My GF from FL left 61 to meet me in Chicago (15)--what a pal Anyway, she did well with the change but I'm sure she's glad to be back home where it's warm!

Lala: Hope you had a good weekend and that you didn't have any trouble with your flights, etc.

Hi everybody.

Br-r-r- it's still freezing cold here. However, the sun is shining brightly and there's not a cloud in the sky - very deceiving.

Three weeks away from Valentine's Day. I'd better get my act together if I'm to lose 7 lbs. Seem to be heading in the other direction.

Melissa: Sorry you were a victim of the storm. Then again, I'd rather they take lots of time during the de-icing procedure rather than cut corners Are you expecting much snow today?

Domina: I agree with you re Fast Track. I say I'm going to try it, but I'm still not certain that I could manage it. Just staying within the totals (including Flex) for the week seems to be a big challenge these days.

I ran for 49 minutes on the treadmill yesterday. My knees gave me some difficulty, so I had to inject some walking into the mix when it got too painful. Hopefully this will not become a problem

hi there,

I'm back from London and we had a pretty decent time. I'm not so tired from my trip, but I had the cat howling at me all night long, so that made for a long night.

Our flights were okay, I have to say that I am exceedingly tired of flying and its not very glam even in a premium product. I am really jaded and I will pay for it I'm sure when I am stuck in row 45 between two people who have been travelling for 3 days straight without a shower and talking to me all night long.

Our trip --
We ate at a few new places (Smiths of smithfield in the Smithfield meat market, hung out at the borough market , walked around the Tate Modern and took in the new Eliasson exhibit. I got a haircut while Taller half hung out at
Pret a Manger , we went to Wagamama's for lunch to fulfill her noodle needs. We walked around Soho and went to Neal's yard dairy to pick up some cheese, did a bit of window shopping and then went back to victoria to pick up our bags and go home. We had a nice dinner at home, caught up with everyone and then collapsed. The second day we slept in, got up, went to the post office and mailed off some of our christmas books. We went in London, hung out at St. James' Park and Pall Mall , walked up through Picadilly and Regent's Street to Andrew Edmunds for a nice lunch and left before the b*st*rds started to smoke cigars. Then we went to Liberty of London to do a bit of salivating at the Arts and Crafts pieces, looked at soft furnishings and fabric and left empty handed. We went up to LIttle Venice via Warwick Street, walked around for a while trying to price property (so, if we sold all our holdings, could we afford to buy in this neighborhood? -- probably, but we couldn't afford heat or food!). We then joined up a bunch of flyertalkers for dinner in Soho and then went to the Groucho Club for a drink. We unfortunately ended up leaving the club at the same time the bars all closed. Nonetheless, we made it home in one piece and ended up getting about 4 hours of sleep before our cab ride to Victoria and our departure to Dallas where the flying time was only 10 hours just to Dallas and another 4 to Seattle .

Unlike Melissa, we experienced pretty decent weather and arrived in Seattle
15 minutes early. This makes up for our 4 hour delay on Jan 6 due to snow.

We had a nice time, I spent little money and I think at Valentine's day, I'll opt to stay with my aunt for one day and save another 150 bucks. That and I like to see her.

My TOM started, so I am going to my meeting this week, but I am not getting on the scale. I am happy to pay someone 12 bucks to just sit and listen and try and understand why I am doing all these things to myself.

Melissa -- I think you are going to have a great time. As it stands now, we are waffling on our March trip. We may stay in London (free place) and go to Scotland for two or three days. Maybe our times will coincide.

I'll post later.

Welcome back lala. What a wonderfully innovative way to share your weekend with us; I feel like I was there with you. I'm happy to live vicariously through you.

It's still freezing cold here, so I did today's run before work on the treadmill. The clinic meets tonight but there's no way I'm going for a repeat of last week. I won't be running outside until we hit at least -5 with no wind. Lungs just can't take it.

Nothing new here unless you count frozen pipes in the downstairs bath.

Good morning! Well all the schools here are closed this morning due to an ice storm last night. Woke up at 2 a.m. to the sound of thunder and flashes of lightning and the freezing rain hitting the windows. The sidewalks are a sheet of ice (1/2-inch thick) and my car is frozen solid! The next batch of freezing rain is beginning and sometime later this afternoon the snow will follow. The temps are rising right now and they're supposed to drop later on.

I'm not sure if they'll cancel the WW meetings for this evening. I'm supposed to work but we'll see.

Lala: Sounds like you had a great time! Sometimes it's better to not get on the scale during TOM, why put yourself through more agony?

Susan: Sounds like a smart idea to not run outside until the temps/winds are in your favor. I was out for a little bit yesterday for a walk but nothing major--I figure some movement is better than none. I'm going to tackle my bedroom as long as I'm home.

Domina: Hope everything is going well with you!

Yikes you guys, stay warm. My monthly teleconference is cancelled because no one can get into the office. Oh well.

I have a cold. I am drinking my vitamin c and fluids, but I am feeling lousy. I went to my WW meeting this am to just pay my cash and not weigh in, why you say? because they are threatening to cancel my meeting because attendance is low. I'll try and catch another full meeting tomorrow if I am feeling better.

Other than that, things are okay here. Not experiencing any jet lag and back into the swing of things. I worked out (why?) with my trainer today and he killed my abs, I'll feel it tomorrow for sure.

Stay warm and off the roads if you can.

Well it looks like the worst has passed, although they're still calling for snow. It took me quite a while to get the ice off of my car (no garage) and to shovel the sidewalks. It seemed as fast as I was getting the ice up more snow/ice was forming. I did get some good AP's in though I'm sure my body will be protesting tomorrow morning. I'm planning on getting a nice soak in the tub later on to help combat the sore muscles.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Melissa: Have you managed to keep your car de-iced? How are your muscles this morning? Hope the storm has moved on and things are relatively normal again.

lala: Sorry to hear about the cold. Stay hydrated and get lots of rest, otherwise it may drag on for a long, long time.

I'm finally finished the antibiotic and feel pretty good. I've resolved to take my asthma medication on a more regular basis.

Run clinic topic last night was heart rate monitors. I have one but haven't used it much. However, the speaker has me convinced to at least try it for a while to see if it makes a difference.

My weight hasn't budged despite the fact that I have one whole day OP Time's running out but I still fantasize that I can lose 7 lbs before Feb.14th.

Domina: I kinda forget the whole concept of being warm. Drop in and remind us, OK?

Good morning!

My car wasn't iced over this morning, although we did get about 4-6" of snow last evening and it was drifting in some areas. I took some Tylenol before I went to bed last evening and that seems to have helped. My arms/sides are a little sore but not as bad as what I thought they might be--tomorrow might be a different story!

Seasaw: I coming into TOM next week (Saturday) so I know my weight will most likely go up a little. I'm going to work my darndest to not have that happen but I know it's likely to happen.

Domina: Do tell us how nice, warm, & sunny things are in your neck of the woods. If nothing else we can "imagine" the warmth!

Lala: Drink lots of water--it really helps to get you back on the mend. Hope you're feeling a little better today.

I'm heading out to my meeting at noon; I'm also working at the center this evening for someone else so I'll be busy tonight. This weekend we have our staff meeting and this will be the first with our new Territory Manager.

Stay warm everyone!

Hi to all...I hope you don't mind me joining in here! I reached Lifetime on Monday at WW with a total loss of 61#. That started my week off to a great start, then last night we got a huge storm and my daughter and I were in a car accident-she was driving and feel terrible about the crash, but it was unavoidable-we rolled my car over 3 times, but we both had on seatbelts and the airbags saved us. She is just bruised and I have a torn rotator cuff and bruises...it could have been much worse. My DD just got her license a month ago, at the time there was just a dusting of snow on the road-they didn't seem to be slippery, but a truck came over a hill on our side and she went into the ditch to avoid hitting him, we hit the embankment and started to roll. A car behind us seen what happened and gave the police a disciption of the truck (since he didn't even stop) that car avoided the accident by hitting the ditch on the other side of the road! Anyway, hoping the week get's back to a good start-thanks for listening (reading) and looking forward to making new connections with fellow "losers"!

Ideal,

Wow, sounds like you guys did okay considering what happened. I hope they get that jerk, but then again, he may have also been slipping. Try and get your daughter back on the roads sooner than later, don't make her a scaredy driver. I have a a friend who never got behind the wheel again because of an accident.

Well, I am feeling better today, I left work early (depressed at the amount that needs to be done) and slept from about 3:30 to 6:00 am. I am sore from my work out yesterday and my throat really is scratchy, but nothing else really awful.

I am glad to hear that the snow has abated. I hope the weather improves for all on the Eastern Seaboard.

Susan -- I am interested in HR monitors myself. I wonder if they would push me to work out harder.

Melissa -- Good luck today at weigh in. I am going to a lunch meeting to see what I missed yesterday. I also went to the pret a manger website and saw that they give calorie counts, but not Points values for their food. They are a sandwich chain found all over london and can be a salvation while walking around. Lots of options for a quick healthy bite there!

Domina -- how are things going where the sun shines and people are seen without boots and wooly clothes on?

Okay, I should start attempting to get something done.

off to the wars,

lala

Idealperson: Welcome!!! Sounds like you had a really rough night! Thank goodness you're both okay. Lala is so right, get your daughter behind the wheel as soon as possible. After I had my accident my mom had me drive to my aunt's house--it was the longest drive of my life (it was only a couple of miles) and my hands clenched the steering wheel the whole time but it really helped and I thank her now for it. Will you have to have surgery?

Lala: I appreciate all the tips you've been passing along--my trip will be here before I know it!

I went to my meeting at noon and was up 1#--totally expected since TOM is due to arrive next Saturday. I'm going to increase my water and watch the salty foods and hopefully I won't post another gain next week. The weather has calmed down a little and the roads weren't too bad at noon. I'm hoping the worst is behind us.

Ideal: Welcome - you sure know how to make an entrance!! I imagine you will be plenty sore beginning sometime tonight or tomorrow. Take it easy, OK? And I agree with lala - get your daughter back behind the wheel quickly. I've had a few accidents myself on icy roads, and it really affects your confidence. I'm fine in good weather, but a nervous wreck on snow, ice, etc.

lala: What was fascinating about the whole presentation last night was that most people are working out too hard! The speaker is a tri-athlete and in excellent shape (and I do mean excellent). He trains strickly via heart monitor as do folks like Lance Armstrong and Greta James or Janes or something like that who holds the best female time ever in the NYC (or was it Boston) Marathon.

Anyway, a monitor helps you to stay in the 60-80% max heart rate range. Most of us train at a higher level than that - either in the "mushy middle (81-84%) which is of absolutely no aerobic or anaerobic value whatsoever or in the 85 - 90% range which just thrashes our bodies and doesn't allow us to build up any endurance. He was pretty convincing. If you're interested, I can will pass along the literature in a PM when I receive it.

Melissa: You were wise to take Tylenol last night. Hacking away at ice and snow can be really hard on you. How did weigh-in go?
