Breast Cancer Medicine and Wt Gain

  • Sigh... this is sooo disheartening. Im new here and was hoping someone might have some words of wisdom. Finished battling breast cancer in Oct after a very long year. On Arimidex long term to prevent reoccurance. Side effect, among others, weight gain, which also puts you at higher risk of reoccurranc! I feel like I can't win for losing! Anyone fought this particular battle and won?
  • Hi hunny, well done for battling that! I cant even begin to imagine how difficult it must have been. I honestly wouldnt worry about your weight whilst your still on meds. you have been through such a rollercoaster ride and your body has been amazing to you! So please dont let your weight get you down maybe put on hold until your off your meds? Or if that is out question you could maybe speak to your doctor see what they reccomend? But super well done for winning your fight! Xxx
  • to 3FC Coffeequeen, Well-done on battling breast cancer and completing your treatment and getting to recurrence prevention! I hope your doc can suggest something to help you deal with the weight gain side effect. A suggestion while you sort it out, how about getting in some exercise? It can give such a boost of good feeling, in addition to the health benefit. Even getting out for a walk--so simple yet so good for the mind & body.

Hi! I am also on arimidex for the same reason. I was dx April 2016. I have successfully lost some weight while on arimidex. The only way I am able to that I have found so far is whole grain and fruit in the morning and after noon only veggies and lean protein. I picked up this tip from another lady with the same challenges and it seems to work. It is a challenge for me to follow every day but I am trying.

    Hope this helps!
