Default Whether or not I lose weight can very well determine my college and future

Hello!

I probably have a bit of a different story than many others here. I'm a junior in high school and student-athlete that is actually at a normal (but getting closer to overweight) weight, however I struggle heavily with binge eating and weight loss.

Beyond aesthetics, my main goal for losing weight is to be recruited by a top college; my sport has weight classes and if I were about 15-20 pounds lighter, I would basically be a shoe-in candidate for the university's team. I've been trying to lose weight since the end of middle school but have always failed, mainly from my binge eating problem. This past year, it has gotten significantly worse and I have gotten about 10 pounds heavier, making me even further away from the weight cutoff.

It's very frustrating because my goal is really not many pounds at all, but it seems so impossibly difficult to me. The fact that I could achieve everything I want by just losing some weight makes me so angry, because I've been failing miserably at it thus far. It would be a very hard pill for me to swallow if 15-20 pounds ended up being the reason for rejection from a top college next year.

I guess this kind of became more of a rant than an introduction, but I look forward to meeting people with similar goals on here!

Hi, and welcome!

I haven't really had the same issues, but mine go back to middle school and I feel for you. It sounds like maybe you are binge eating in reaction to your attempts to lose weight. Maybe instead of trying to focus on losing weight, you might focus on getting excited about incorporating more healthy veggies and less processed foods in your diet without eliminating any foods that you enjoy (I know it's hard to control your own diet since you are in high school, but if you ask your parents for help, they might be very supportive). I hope you also get the chance to see a specialist in this condition. You are so young, it would be a blessing to nip this problem in the bud now.

I wish you the best of luck with your ambitions!
