Talking 5 Pound Reward Box

Just posted this in 100lbs and thought I'd share it here too!!

Okay friends... I'm sick to death of being stuck at 215 (been as low as 213 but I keep coming back to 215) now..been stuck there for several weeks now. It's my fault. I've been crazy with school starting (elementary and graduate) and I've been so tired. I've been doing great on exercise and water, but the food is absolutely out of control. I need some extra motivation!!

I remembered tonight about reading on the MOB list several years ago (anybody remember it??) about a 5 Pound Reward Box. The idea is that you find a pretty box and write down on little slips of paper lots of little non-food treats for yourself. Every time you lose 5 pounds, you get to pick a treat and buy it for yourself. I sat down tonight and made my list..manicures, pedicures, herbal wrap, cds, books, and shoes are on my list. I hope this will help me to get going again (and save me some money too since I can't buy treats unless I've "earned" them).

Hope everyone is having a fabulous week!

Sounds like a great idea to me--I will have to get one together for myself. It's exciting to be able to reward myself for doing something SO GOOD for me!!! I have been doing a reward for every 5 lbs., but the box sounds fun. In addition, my husband has added in a "full back massage" every 5 lbs! He insisted--what a sweetie! How could I say no?

Anthena that is a great idea. I've been treating myself every 10 pounds. So far I've had a full body massage with manicure and pedicure (that was for hitting 199, so I went big!), my fiance bought me a diamond studded toe ring for 210 and now I have to think of another one, cuz I just hit 190 yesterday.

I love the idea of a mystery box though, i do believe I'll give it a go. I'm going to stick to 10 pounds right now because the weight is still coming off quite fast but soon I'll switch over to 5 cuz God knows I'm not going to wait a few months for my next reward once it starts to slow down.

Great Idea!

Okies, I made my reward box, which was fun in it's own right, I pasted before pictures of myself on it for motivation and then one after picture of me that I made with photoshop, let me tell ya, I'm a looker . The funny part was that i filled it up with different stuff then was out for the rest of the day. When I got back I picked out my reward for 190. It was a night at the theme suit hotel in the city (where my finace propsed to me). I was like, hmmm I didn't stick that in there. Turns out little finace was busy thinking of rewards while I was out and put another 20 into the box. I don't need to loose 200 pounds so I'm not going to get to use them all but it was really cool. Now I have no idea what's in there. So we booked the hotel but we'll have to wait awhile becasue it's a pretty popular place. Honestly though, who cares, I'm going to Rome!

Tummy- That is sooooo cool that he did that for you, awesome support. My goal is to be in Onederland by the end of the month....which is really exciting because I have not been under 200 lbs in like oh 4 years or so. However, being the broke full-time student that I am trying to find non-food rewards is quite challenging. If I had a ton of money there would be no problem filling the box, but unfortunatley that is not the case. Any suggestions for some affordable even cheap rewards? Thanks, and keep up the awesome work!

Jamie- I've been trying to think up cheaper rewards too. I've put in a couple of slips that say "new t-shirt", which is usually under $15, and at the (slow) rate I lose, isn't exorbitant. I also put in that I would get myself enough yarn to knit a pair of fun socks, but if you don't knit that's not so good.

Other smaller things-
-cute hair clips
-nail polish and emery boards to give myself a manicure
-a cd (if you get these at used record stores they're usually pretty cheap)
-a fun looking notebook/journal (I love nice looking notebooks)

Also do you have any hobbies that require occaisional small purchases. I have a friend who does scrapbooking, and although she's not trying to lose weight, she uses scrapbooking stuff as an incentive to get things done occaisionally.

ChicCat- thanks for the great ideas. it's kinda interesting to think about how often I used food for celebrating, very challenging task to change that mode. but the reward box is a great alternative- I love scrapbooking and making framed collages so that would be a good thing to add. anyways thanks again

Thanks for sharing. I am making up one today. For every 15 pounds. Since I also need to save some money. Going to share the idea with my leader too. She may want to let other members in on the idea.

Thanks.

I love this idea too... and it is quite a challenge to think of a reward that dosn't involve food!!!
Some of my favorite options include bath time... bubbles, candles, peace and quite....
I also have a totally non-subject related question... what is ONEderland? I have seen it all over the boards and I just don't understand. Please help.

Hey Lavender, ONEderland is going to be the most fantastic place in the world...at least for me. It is the point at which you drop into the 100's, I haven't been there in over 4 years and now I have 5 lbs. to go. However, definately not anywhere close to my ulitmate goal but it's such a mental thing I can't wait.
