Beach Weekend Chat, May 14-15

  • Good Morning!

I have no dog here but I will go sit outside with my coffee anyways. It's brewing right now and I thought I'd get us started since I seem to be up. LOL

I mostly have a me day although I need to get a lease ready for my mom. Now that I think about it, I suppose I will go to this dinner she's got going on tonight. Maybe everything in between could be a me day. I don't know exactly what I'm going to do yet. It seems that decision won't happen until after coffee and sudoku. I do need to get my clothes together for my trip. I'm sure I will enjoy a little yard time. It's so beautiful and warm out. I will try to take it easy though, I was exhausted last night.

I look forward to hearing from all of you today! Have a great one!
  • Good morning Debbie and still waking Chicks It's a DH work weekend, so chores, chores, chores for me. This time of year that means gardens. This morning I'm off to a plant sale, then back home to put things in. I'm putting some curry chicken in the crockpot because, much as I want to grill, I need to focus time on yard work. I love dirt under my nails and listening to the birds, so no complaints here

Debbie - hope you carve out some time for relaxing and enjoying your yard.

Now off to shower, run an errand, and get to the plant sale as soon as it opens
  • Good morning, chicks! I've been up for a bit but organizing. Tomorrow we attend DS1's graduation. Of course the weather looks abysmal...and it will be held outdoors rain or shine. I'm still working out the clothes to take.

This morning we have a few hours of sun before the rain starts; its good for the spirits.

Cyndi, we are set for record cold over the the 48 hours. No planting happening yet. Enjoy your day!

Debbie, hope you get some "me" time. Have a nice dinner.

    Got to run!

    Have a great day, chicks!
  • Good morning,

Been up for awhile has my cat "woke" me up. It is sunny but cooler today only 60 for the high there was some rain overnight so hoping today is another sunny day. We will go to sixflags today to process the passes and I also need to clean the house.

Debbie hope you to go get me time today

    Cyndi enjoy gardening today

Beth congrats on DS graduation, hope it does not rain during the ceremony

    Have a wonderful day everyone
  • Just waved goodbye to my brother David who is heading back to Oakville. We had a really good minor family reunion, Dave, sister Joan and BIL Peter. Reasonable amounts of single malt and red wine were consumed with the roast beef. Joan and Peter left about 11 and Dave and I had a nightcap and petted dogs until midnight. I was up at my usual 5:30 and and Dave shortly after that. The dishwasher is running and I am about to slice and freeze portions of what remains of the roast.

We have a rather chilly day but I may get some gardening done. Neighour Moel has an idea about restoring my "no longer raised" veggie bed using patio tiles which are on sale locally. I can't help with lifting but I sure can cheer him on. My daffodils are over and need to be deadheaded but I have tulips and carpets of variously coloured violets to enjoy until the mock orange and lilacs start to bloom. A lovely time of year. I may hit a gardened centre later today.

    First ... another coffee.
  • And - now it's Sunday! So much for Saturday - it ended up cold and rainy. I did get outside to check out the raised bed but things were too wet to work. I did pick a bouquet of mixed violets - deep purple and white with some pinkish mauve. Part of the meadow is just carpeted with them.

I have to make three very large pans of dessert for Tuesday's "Trek" event - an apple and rhubarb "Pandowdy" - and have no idea how it will turn out. I'd really just as soon do a crisp but Katherine, our events coordinator, insists on the pioneer dessert. It has to serve 80 people. I guess I'll just cross my fingers and hope for the best ... and not volunteer next time. Later today I'll see how much rhubarb I can scrounge in the neighbourhood. The topping looks to me like Bisquick will suffice. I can't imagine cutting in shortening for such a huge amount. I'm going to be cooking in pans that take four times the recipe which would mean working with 18 cups of flour. Sheesh! I'm discouraged and have not even started.

Time for some sort of breakfast to fuel me for today's challenge. Then I'll start rounding up rhubarb and figure out when I can run to town to Bulk Barn for Bisquick!
  • Good Morning!

Wow, Ruth! I wish I could share my rhubarb with you. It needs some picking. Hmm, I can't believe that someone who has a volunteer to make a dessert for 80 would be so picky. I'd just make the crisp or tell her she is welcome to make the "pioneer" dessert. My grandmother was a pioneer and always made the crisp....maybe that was just Colorado. lol

Got to get running. I spent most of yesterday tending to mom and an event she had. Hauled her and her stuff home at 630 and went to bed. Trying to do small tasks. Washed my two pair of good pants for the trip and ironed new ones. They still had funky wrinkles even after washing. A pain because nothing can touch the floor in this pet infested house. I was smart and did not even put them in the dryer since a blankie from the car had just come out.

I need more coffee then off to work. Have a great Sunday everyone!
  • Good morning,

It's a chilly 60 in the house but I am not turning on the furnace again, it's in the 40's outside but will get up to mid 60s today. Yesterday had fun at sixflags and managed to stay op for eating, I did bring my own snack in.

Not sure what is on the agenda for today, I did get all the cleaning done yesterday so don't have that to do.

Ruth I agree with Debbie do a crisp and next year Katherine can make it herself.

Debbie do you have any wrinkle release? That might help to spray and then iron.

    Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!
  • Compromise has been reached - a rhubarb and apple bottom with a sort of biscuit-like topping, almost dumplings. I picked enough rhubarb just now in the cold rain. Now I'm changed into dry clothes and there's no rain and the sun is shining. I'll chop the rhubarb and be sure I have enough. Tomorrow will be a better day. Too bad it's not late enough for a Scotch, the 6 PM news, and early bed!
