  • Good morning on this National Pi Day (3.14.16) being celebrated by all geeks of the land.

Apparently, this Daylight Savings Time continues today also. It still feels like the hours are coming too quickly.

My task for the week is to coral my information for taxes. Without eating over it.
  • Deep in financial paperwork here too, Bill. Benjamin Franklin summed it up so well. "In this world nothing can be said to be certain except death and taxes."

Will get out for a walk later, even if events* conspire to keep me indoors. I tried out one yesterday, hoping to make it a standard but it needs a bit of tweaking.

*Harold Macmillan, British PM 1957-63, when asked what was the biggest challenge facing him as leader, is said to have replied, "Events, dear boy, events". Too true.
  • My taxes are done early this year. Since DH did tax courses all during the fall I asked him to do my return and he did.

The massive eating/drinking/many birthdays combined weekend is over! It was fun but I'm looking forward to getting back to regular eating and exercise. DH's buddy has been sleeping in our living room, which is also my gym, so no yoga or weights this weekend. Pretty sure he leaves today so yoga tomorrow a.m.

This is the year I'm pushing 60. And I'm going to push it hard!
    And that starts today!

    Dagmar
  • DH and I are going to start walking the dogs before or after dinner this week. The dogs need it and I really didn't want to have to get up even earlier to work out. I'm struggling as it is.

We had our taxes done a couple of weeks ago. We had a rather profitable year and were afraid we'd owe a lot of taxes, but we did profit sharing with our employees and ended up not owing more than $700. Amazing. I'd much rather give our employees $80,000 and lower our taxes any day!

MIL and I are going to a luncheon today. I'm hoping we'll have fun. It's part of a women's club and we'll probably be asked to join. We'll see...

We're on the last part before we go on vacation! Less than 3 months to go. And already we're planning the next vacation--a short trip to Utah for DH's annual golf tournament and hopefully we'll stay a day or two longer to visit friends and family. I still want to go to Moab for a long weekend. Perhaps we'll do that next year.
  • National Pi Day!
I need to avoid any pie!
I succumbed to quite a few treats at book club yesterday and my weight shot up as a result. Sigh.

My book fair starts today so I'll be scarce this week. We open each day at 7:30 so I have to get here and ready EARLY. I'm also working hard on my Read-a-thon stuff.
And dd is here.... and trying to do stuff with her. By the time Saturday comes, dd will be leaving and book fair will be over. No offense to dd but I'll be ready!!

Dh thought he'd do our taxes early but it didn't happen so he'll have to look at them when he returns. I'm praying we don't owe as we are trying to help dd buy a house this summer.....

    Love it!

It's Rounded Pi day! (3.14159... rounded is 3.1416).
  • DH's friend is still with us - apparently. His stuff and car are here but he and DH have been gone since I picked Trixie up for her second walk. Hope I don't have to feed him again - only planned for two and no way to stretch what I'm making. He brought home leftovers from dinner out last night - maybe I can get away with giving him those.

    Guests really ARE like fish.

  • Round pies are good. I'd like a coconut custard one, please. I promise I won't eat the crust. I'm halfway done with my radiation treatments. So far, so good. I've upped my weight training a little and I'm doing more work in the garden.

Michele, your weight has gone down lately, so don't worry about a few treats. Saturday I ate quite a few peanut butter m&m's. Yesterday I ate some popcorners.

Dagmar, time to let the friend know that workouts will be resuming whether or not he is sleeping in the "gym".
  • Sounds like you're doing great, Alice! What are pop corners?

I've made it through 2 days of book fair. Yesterday was crazy busy all day! Today is still a class preview day but all the Kindergartners come, so it is challenging! Then, after school they all come back with their parents!

And I'm working hours every night on my Read-a-thon. And making it to the gym. Patting myself on the back at this point. Dinners are mostly quick dinners out but I'm making healthy choices. I think dd is going to make fish tacos tonight at home.
  • I hate the week after DST. I can't sleep at night, can't wake up in the morning, draggy all day. I'm thinking about standing up and going for a walk.
  • Me, too, Shannon. The night before last was horrible. Last night was a bit better but I slept wrong and woke with neck pains. I almost fell asleep at my desk yesterday.

And I feel like I've just emerged from 5 months of jet lag. I'm staying up 'til 10 p.m. reading. Haven't been able to do that since Oct. 31.

IMO sleep is as individual as diet and exercise. Still not many facts about it but we all do it and do it quite differently.

    Dagmar
  • Dagmar, is the house guest gone?
  • Dagmar - one of my coworkers is more like you and she is all bouncy and bushy now while the rest of us are dragging.
  • I'm not sleeping so well lately either. I think I need harder hikes to make me really tired.

Michele, Popcorners are just another brand of popcorn chip, like PopChips. But to my tastebuds they are far better than any other brand I've tried. I always weigh out my portion, otherwise I'd eat most of the bag. Sounds like you are going great guns fitting in time at the gym and healthy dinners!

    Happy St Patty's Day, everyone!!
