Hello all!! I'm in week one of my 1200 calorie diet. I use the myfitnesspal app to log all my cals and exercise. I chose a 30/30/40 Fat/Protein/Carb breakdown for my daily intake. My big problem is getting enough protein in.
So Far my best options have been Plain Greek Yogurt with Lemon Juice and Splenda (23 g per cup) and Egg Whites for Breakfast. It seems not much else offers a good helping of protein without a bunch of extra calories. I am kinda a volume eater. I bump up most of my meals with vegetables.
I'm not a big fan of protein shakes. I have a ginormous tub now that I haven't touched in forever. I rather eat my calories than drink them.
Please share with me your sources!!!
Pretty P...L...E..A...S.....E!!

Fish/seafood. For example, check out crab, oysters, mussels, scallops or shrimp. Or even canned sardines in water. A big protein hit for low calories. Better than shakes in my experience.
Eggs as well.
But at some point, you may come to realize that high protein, low fat and low carb matters more than calories.
I eat a lot of lean protein and it does not seem to affect my weight much at all.
And real eggs versus egg whites is not going to make any difference. Try it and see.
I eat vegetable protein sources like quinoa, lentils, black beans, chick peas, green peas, spinach, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, cauliflower, asparagus...
I'm having a chicken breast salad sandwich and a glass of wine and I am in heaven. yeah, not the most protein, but I'm happy. Guacamole I eat vegetarian most meals. I just can eat a lot of lentils and beans. The totally blow up my guts! That and cabbage kill me. I read that everyone has different foods that gas them up. I think lentils are the devil for me.
Btw, I love guacamole!
Gas is a necessary evil with me. Lots of gas generally means I am getting my diet right.
A diet high in fiber and protein will give you that. And that's pretty good from a health perspective, if not from a gas one!
I also eat a fair bit of guacamole/avocado. Good fats are good for you. You'll see the benefit in your hair and skin. And it won't affect the scale as much as you'd think. Unless you are dipping tacos or chips in that sucker.
Haha, Ian, a lot of my diet revolves around making sure I don't have gas I compromise with broccoli, brussel sprouts and cottage cheese though - those staples are worth it.
I always considered proteins "worth" the calories because they kept me full longer, made me feel better, didn't create cravings.
One thing I recently added into my diet is cottage cheese. I wouldn't say I enjoy it but its a great snack that is ready to go no prep needed!! Another good high protein snack is pumpkin seeds
Sooooo I went to Joe's Crab Shack and ordered the Crab Cakes for my cheat meal. I was SO disappointed! Bad Service, Expensive and terrible food! I should have just made a cornbread patty at home.
Nothing sucks more than finally getting a cheat meal after 10 days on a 1200 calorie diet and totally being let down. I'm a food lover (obviously) and I just kept on thinking about my next cheat meal. Thank god that my weight loss is showing and it's motivating me through my next 42 days of dieting....
My favorite is to buy frozen chicken tenders (raw) in the bag and fix about 8 of them at a time in the oven. Then I can snack on one or decide to have a couple mixed with veggies for a meal with a little salsa or whatever I'm the mood for. I often cut them up over a green salad. Since they are much smaller than chicken breasts, they are easy to control portions. I also like hard boiled eggs for the same reason.
Crab cakes invariably have a lot of carbs, so I tend to avoid them, although you can buy them for only $1.00 each at Kroger's most of the time...
I make my own crab cakes without the breadcrumbs. Job done. They hold together less well but I wrap them in foil and freeze them. I then defrost, unwrap and microwave.
I use MyFitnessPal as well! I fixed Tilapia the other night and it told me that it had a lot of protein. I agree with the others too. Seafood tends to pack a punch in the protein department
