Default Snow Day Tuesday - February 16

On my second cup of coffee from the "old" coffee-maker. The Keurig is in "time-out for a while.

We are in a severe weather warning and a major dump of snow and freezing rain is forecast. I may go out for some groceries before the big bad stuff hits. I was to do small road trip with Cousin Lisa but we are too smart to think of it now. Highway 401 is Death Row when the snow blows off the St Lawrence or Lake Ontario. Sixteen to twenty inches of the white stuff is expected.

"Family" Dinner last night was great despite some bad stuff early in the day. Joanne woke feeling lousy and went to emerg - diagnosis is possible Lyme disease. She's home now so we just had her two kids for dinner - smart Mac remembered her Mum was to bring a starter and grabbed a fancy shrimp plate.

Heather was in charge of scalloped potatoes and also went to emerg after slicing off a goodly part of her thumb while using the %$*!(** mandoline without the guard! They "glued" her back together and put on a transparent bandage so she could watch for bleeding - she wore a glove on that hand to avoid grossing us out.

It was a memorable evening, not to be repeated!

Just checked outdoors and "it" has started. that we don't lose power. Hope to see you all later.

Ruth - those mandolins are dangerous!! I remember cutting a tiny part of my thumb off, in a bunch of scalloped potatoes as well. The blood around it helped me find it .

It unfortunately has turned to rain here - we keep hoping for a good snow, but every time it has warmed up so we get rain. Problem is, we got 3" snow last night, ice this am, and rain on top of it, so it is slick as snot out there right now! I have two VERY excited children that school is cancelled because of the poor road conditions. Mama ain't so excited! (it is cute how excitedly they are chattering away though...)

So no plans for me. I was supposed to meet a friend for breakfast today, we cancelled because of the impending weather (good choice!). Glad I went to the grocery store yesterday!

Good morning, Ruth! I'm that storm with you; 5-9 inches of snow and an inch of ice possible. DH and I made a quick grocery trip yesterday and also brought in a load of wood so we are set even if we lose power. I think you are smart to stay home; 401 is nuts on a dry, sunny day.

Glad you had a good dinner despite the medical issues. Good friends are wonderful.

Since I'm going to be housebound I should make a list of chores to do. Or maybe I'll just curl up with a book.

Good morning.

Tammy we have the same mess here. Hoping it warm up and melts quickly. I don't even want to chance bringing in my garbage cans yet. Hope you have a nice day with the kids being home. Board games and cocoa sounds good on a day like this.

Ruth what an adventurous dinner. My goodness! I sliced my thumb with a utility knife while repairing a window screen. Got distracted and oops. Mine took 8 stitches to close. Another 2mm I would have severed the nerve in my thumb. Lesson learned no cell phone when using a knife if any kind!

Beth I vote to stay home and read a book!

As for me the room is done and so am I lol. Spent the evening with my heating pad lol. Later in the week I will go look at area rugs. I am happy with the results. My next little project will be to replace the GFI in the down stairs bathroom. I would like to spruce up the kitchen, but that would require big bucks and a professional.

Oh well at least there is coffee lol. Have a great day!

Good morning,

We are expecting a bit more snow/rain/or ice (We are borderline freezing temps) in a bit but should pass through fairly quickly and then I think we are done for a while.

Today is another wfh but I do have several conference calls today to attend to. Other than that nothing on the agenda today.

Ruth wow that is why I won't buy a mandolin they scare me. Glad you all were able to enjoy the dinner though. Fingers crossed that the power doesn't go off.

Tywnn DD2 was hoping for a snow day today but since it hasn't hit and will be done by noon school is on. Enjoy the extra day with them

Beth I also vote for a book stay warm

Jekel awesome that you finished already. I have not started on stage 2 partly because DD1 is always in the room either sleeping or studying for boards or I am working when it is free.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning Today's agenda includes a job interview and a dr. appointment. My week off is almost completely filled with appointments, visits, and stuff. Tomorrow I'm off to see the toddler. Can't wait!

Ruth - I learned the hard way with the mandolin. The worst cut I ever got was while using the guard. Now I have kevlar gloves and I replace them every 2-3 years. I'm not taking any chances wth that thing!

Tammy - Our temperature refuses to go up, so still snow here. It has that thick crusty top that Cricket hates. It's thick enough to break through, but not to hold her. hope we do get the promised melting today.

Beth - Enjoy your homebound day

Jennifer - It's so nice to get one of those projects done! Too bad there are always new ones.

Rose - We still haven't had a real snow day storm here this year. I'm not complaining, but the kids are.

Time to get moving. I got distracted doing some research for DH this morning. He has decided it is time to get another back surgery, so we were looking at doctor options near us. It's always something! Hope he can get this done and mend by summer.

Okay, off I go

Well, we are heading towards 20" and it's supposed to go on all night. I had to shovel the deck and steps so Jazz could get down to snow-swim in the yard. That was at 10 and the drifts are back again. Richard did show to clear my lane but the roads have not been ploughed so getting the car out is not an option. Actually people have been warned to stay off the roads. Eastern Ontario is shut down!

Just to add to the seasonal joy, my PC was attacked by a bunch of baddies. Spent what was left of the morning online with a microsoft techie named David. (Bet that wasn't his real name since he had a very thick Indian accent!) It's so hard to deal with these guys since they talk very fast and are in a noisy call-center environment. Anyhow, all is well for now and I am stuck here waiting for a confirmation call from"Larry". I plan to do more shovelling once that's over and then get on with real life.
