New Food Scale

  • I just got a new food scale that will measure in different units rather than just ounces. I only used my old one once in awhile to weight meat. I've been using the new one to weigh out everything (thats not liquid) and it is great! I never realized the different when I am judging things just by sight.

Last night I was cutting up strawberries and a serving size said 1 cup but when I actually cut them up and measured them by the serving weight in grams it was different than I expected.

I highly recommend using a scale! I think I have been under estimating my calories now that I am weighing things.
  • I love my kitchen scale... I use it all the time... and I truly believe it's one of the main reasons I was able to lose over 60 lbs...

I've actually just recently gotten into making really good coffee at home and it's coming in really handy for weighing out freshly ground coffee which I do to the gram to get exactly the right ratios for the perfect cup of coffee... Most of my friends think I'm crazy... But I take my coffee very seriously... Lol...
  • Same here! Even after yrs of measuring, I still under-estimate without measuring. I still have my original WW scale from 1982 & it still measures accurately.
  • I love mine too. I let someone borrow mine a couple weeks ago for a few days and I felt lost without it. I have become pretty good at eyeballing portion sizes for foods I eat most often, but I still need the confirmation of the scale to make sure I am not eating more or less than I thought.
  • Yea, I've never quite figured out how to count out a cup of strawberries.

I use my scale a lot for fruit and meat and bread (I bake my own.) I usually guestimate veggies as they don't have many calories in the first place.

Oh, and I always measure out tortilla chips and almonds (if I don't count them out.)

It's also good for any dry cereals.

I also round up a little bit to give me a slight buffer in my calorie tracking, i.e. 28 grams of shredded cheese gets tracked as 30 grams. 45 grams of apple is tracked at 50 grams.
