Good morning. It's pretty balmy and pleasant on the porch this morning but we are in for another hot and humid day. I have all the windows open at the moment to enjoy the current 60º but will close the house up in an hour or so when things warm up. First I'll water the baskets and flowerboxes on the porch though - they seem to need it daily.
The play last night was funny but I sure find it hard to stay up until 11. I guess that's why they invented matinee performances. We ended up going for dinner at a recently refurbished Victorian resort - terrific food including roast beef. I indulged and am not feeling one bit guilty. I did pass on the rhubarb bread pudding!
Friend Claire is going to paint my little bedroom upstairs. It was formerly the treadmill/junk room but now will be a guest room. Paul's guys were to do it "in their spare time" but they are just waaaaay too busy this summer. Claire insists on doing it for me and who am I to say "No" to an offer like that. (I have two NJ chicks coming for a short two night visit at the end of the month and it will be great to have the extra bed.)
So I'm cranking up Monday. I have the bank run to do first, an "events" meeting at 9 and then the rest of the day will be The Big Domestic as my DH used to say. I may at least start to put away Christmas stuff in Guest room #1.
Ruth, thanks for getting us started this morning! I'm glad you had a good time last night but that's so late. Problem is our inner time clock still get us up early. It will be nice to get your room painted!
It was pretty busy at work yesterday, but I managed to get my lawn mowed when I got home. It was hot but I knew if I didn't just do it it wouldn't happen. I can cross that off my list for the week. Laundry was a must since I was out of undies. I've got laundry started, doggies fed and I'm finally enjoying a cup of coffee on the porch. It's dark but beautiful warm this morning. It will be hot today as well. On my list this morning was getting the sprinklers started again since it's been hot for several days. I have to put them all back in place since I moved them for mowing. Work today then back home. Tomorrow is trash day so I have one more barrel that I need to fill. I have a pile over in the corner of the yard that I was working on digging out a chokecherry Saturday. That should feel it. I find it so much easier just to keep up with things.
Happy Monday everyone! Have a great day! I'm going to go find some more coffee.
Good morning! It's just lovely here this morning, too.
We had a busy day yesterday, cleaning and storing the first batch of onions we had drying. I filled the bin in the pantry with the nicest ones, and chopped and froze the rest. Then we dug the rest of the onions and laid them out to dry. I want to dehydrate them, and I still have 3 5' rows of red onions to pick, and we'll probably get to them this weekend. I also harvested the edamame and boiled them up to keep in the fridge for snacking on. And I got the oven cleaned, too, but I did that overnight Saturday so in the morning, all I had to do was give it a quick swipe when it cooled off. So it ended up being a pretty productive weekend.
Today I have to take Maggie to her ortho appointment and probably get groceries afterwards, and I know there will be a mountain of weekend laundry waiting for me. At least it will keep me busy!
Good morning all closed up and AC on already. My big outing today will be a trip to the appliance store. My big AC is 15 years old and is on its way out. No way I can lift it. I'll pay a little more at the appliance store, but they will install and haul away my old one. The new ones are programmable which will be great. More energy efficient too.
After coffee and before my shower I need to clean my garage overhead light fixture. The light just flickers from the bugs. I bought a yellow bug free (haha) bulb so hopefully my yard will stop looking like a night club! Otherwise a day filled with niggles before going back to work tomorrow.
I had coffee hours ago, went for great walk with Hubbie, and enjoyed the daylilies that are not only overflowing in our gardens but also in many of the neighbor's gardens, too.
Actually see some blue sky among the many fluffy clouds. Our weeks of rain may actually give us a break today.
Our Church picnic with 2 other Churches in neighboring towns was nice yesterday. We met some folks and enjoyed good conversations.
Biggest problem was someone's delicious chocolate chip cookies with walnuts!!! I didn't resist them except for the first 20 minutes, then took 2 trips back for refill. Grrrrrr
At least 2 things right. the walk and re-reading the South Beach Diet book.
Popping in! On track for a better week this week. Lots of fresh produce out of the garden again, although the heavy rains has flooded the community garden and about half of our plants are dying, so we aren't sure how long we'll continue to have the good food. Our cantaloupes are looking good, although only 2 of them, but most of our tomato plants are dying, half of our cucumber plant has turned yellow, and 1/3 of our zucchini plant has turned yellow. The green beans are doing ok, but even with 2 rows, we only get 1 batch a week.
Good chance of severe weather here in central IL today, so being prepared to hit the dirt if need be. Actually, I'm Emergency Response Team at work, so if the hits the fan, I throw on an orange vest and herd cats, I mean people, into the bathrooms and pray we don't get hit.
Back to the grind, hope everyone is having a good day!
