Smile Finding motivation and sticking with it!

Hey Guys!

Obviously I am trying to lose weight!!! But what I find really hard is to keep on going! I seem to be rebound exerciser! A year or two ago I went to a personal trainer for around 2 months then stopped. And just recently I've started back to going to the gym but its been around 2 weeks and I know I am loosing motivation as honestly I cannot be bothered to go!!

Don'g get me wrong I want to lose weight, I'm not unhappy with the way I am but I know I am not a healthy size and need to loose a few pounds (or stone )

How do you guys keep up your motivation to carry on losing weight?

Hazza 123123

Knowing that I need to be healthy to have children; I do not want to be overweight going into pregnancy (hoping to start TTC in Dec '15). Have a few things in my genetics that worry me as well. I don't want to have heart problems at 30-35. No time better to get right then the present.

I am in the EXACT same position. Considering WLS too. I'm turning 30 in May, and have about 100-110 lbs to lose. I'm going to see an OB/GYN too to see what weight i need to be.

the only thing with WLS is that I need to wait about a year after surgery to TTC, and if I have surgery in say, 3-6 months, I'd have to wait until 2016 to start. so I might be 31. Which is not ideal (I want 3 kids). My mom was 30 when she had me, 27 when she had my brother, and 32 when she had my sister.

So plenty of motivation there (although I just started again).

What made you stop going in the first place?

My kids are huge motivation for me, but also my own happiness. Case in point: I disappeared from here last month because the stress of "dieting" and accountability was not worth not enjoying all that I had going on in December.
I gained a pound or so, and now I'm getting back on track. I also want to have a couple more kids and I'd like to do so at a smaller weight.
I really want to get pregnant next December, so I've got to work my ares off (literally!) this year.

For me it is remembering that it isn't all or nothing. If I don't feel like going to the gym one day then I force myself to at least go for a walk. Even if it is only half an hour at least it is something. I do a lot of walking and the more I do the more excited I am to realize that I am going longer and longer without noticing. It also makes going to the gym easier and easier to convince myself to do (I hate the gym).

Hazza - I have the same issue. I want to lose weight but somehow I can't get myself motivated. I am a re-bound through and through. I have phases where I go to the gym 3-4 times per week and then I have weeks where I don't go at all.
I don't have that issue with just the gym either... it is with quite a few things in my life like eating healthy, cooking, generally sticking to a routine.
I spoke quite a lot to my family about this over the holidays and I realized my issue is my job. I work 10-12 hours every day and then I don't want to exercise anymore or I don't want to cook anymore or generally put effort into anything that takes time. All I want is my couch, chocolate and relax.

So starting this year I decided to continue working hard (because I love my job) but to put myself first. So 12 hour days at work are not going to be a regular thing anymore.

I think it helps to think about what prevents you from exercising. What do you do instead of exercising? Get to the root.
