Excellent article! Particularly liked this bit:

"The first dietary guidelines for Americans were published in the year 1977, almost at the exact same time the obesity epidemic started. Of course, this doesn’t prove anything (correlation does not equal causation), but it makes sense that this could be more than just a mere coincidence.

The anti-fat message essentially put the blame on saturated fat and cholesterol (harmless), while giving sugar and refined carbs (very unhealthy) a free pass.

Since the guidelines were published, many massive studies have been conducted on the low-fat diet. It is no better at preventing heart disease, obesity or cancer than the standard Western diet, which is as unhealthy as a diet can get (37, 38, 39, 40).

For some very strange reason, we are still being advised to follow this type of diet, despite the studies showing it to be completely ineffective."

I am sure many people have. But if not look up Ancel Keys and the 7, should have been 22, country study. And the lipid hypothesis. Makes me want to cry literally.

And how John Yudkin's work was buried. His book has been reissued BTW. I bought Kindle edition but haven't read it yet. Diet, Hunger, and Power of Crowds has a cool summary.

I heard someone say if you look at USDA pyramid it is a commodity pyramid. All the things AG needed to sell the most of they told us to eat the most of

Diamond: we know that the entire system is corrupt and is too linked to profits to be trusted.

Yudkin will come to the fore now, because word has got out that it's sugar that dunnit.

People like Gary Taubes have done a massive amount to get the truth out.

Now it's in the mainstream press there is no going back!

I just got the article to come up. It wasn't loading before.

Haven't been there in well over 20 years.

Yeah its unbelievable. Ask her if she ever heard of Ancel Keys, the 7 country study, and the unsupported lipid hypothesis. Fat is bad is just received 'wisdom'. I get general public not knowing but health professionals should know better.

Yes, it's easy with hindsight to think of what i should have said. But at the time I was more worried about the imminent threat that she was going to slap me.

Afterwards I did post her a few pages printed out from the net, but I haven't seen her since, so what effect it had I don't know. I on't be seeing her again, as she is an asthma nurse and I am nearly cured of asthma.
