I don't like to think that such a level of cruelty and ignorance exists in our society, especially among the highly educated. How disappointing.

His mother must be so proud *sarcasm*.

I was exactly 220 pounds when I received my Ph.D.. I ate my way through the entirety of the research and writing of it. Not proud to reveal that but I did, and so many of us do! His comments really fold into the stereotype and assumption that fat people lack intelligence, and are unmotivated and lazy.

Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when he had THAT discussion with his Dean and/or Chair.

You're right Missy Krissy, his mother must be beaming with pride.

Wow.

I've typed out and deleted many responses. The only one that seems to fit is:

Wow.

Huh, well I was 250ish lbs when I got rocking GRE scores. Tell me Mr Jerkface why I'd want to go to UNM when my GRE scores could get me into a way better school?

Hey, I'm his worst nightmare. I DO have a Ph.D. in psychology and was morbidly obese when I got it. Guess I'm a waste!

Read the article so you can get to the amazing gif party in the comments.

And seriously. I was fat when I was working on my PhD and even more so with my PharmD. And I was not the only one.

I love the Buffy gif!

What a D! He's not the only academic who thinks like that. I was in 280's-290's (I'm guessing since I didn't have the guts to weigh myself) when I was in school and I had 3.8 GPA and graduated with honors but I didn't really receive a whole lot of encouragement from my professors. My advisor actually told me that he didn't think one school would be a good fit because it would be too much walking.

And the responses begin...

Not quite sure I'm allowed to post this so I'll be careful. You'll need to spell out the first word, but check this out...

My apologies to the moderators if I've overstepped the posting rules.

Slam him if you must but please don't slam UNM. It is a fine school with many excellent programs. And, btw, he is currently at NYU and the UNM chair is very upset with his behavior.
