What do I look like, a sucker?

  • While perusing 3FC this morning, I saw this ad on the side of my screen:

Yeah right! Advertising and marketing is so ridiculous. The pants that the model is wearing look like they're for a "normal" sized person who wouldn't even need lab band surgery.

I'm not trying to start a debate here, and the advertisement doesn't incite feelings of intense rage in me or anything like that, but I did shake my head and chuckle to myself: Really Big Advertising Company? Do you think that I'm foolish enough to believe that you portray an accurate representation of reality? Joke's on you! I know better
  • Amen honey!
  • I think the ad is supposed to represent a person AFTER Lap Band surgery.
  • Quote: I think the ad is supposed to represent a person AFTER Lap Band surgery.
Agreed. I think OP agrees too. Unless I read her post wrong, I think her point is that the model for the ad appears to be someone who did not actually have any sort of weight loss surgery, but was already thin to begin with.
  • At least yours are in English. Caption competition anyone?

  • LOL, Ian!!

This, and that the pants that she's wearing to show how big she was "before" would fit a "normal" sized person. Those pants are probably smaller than my own, and I'm not big enough to qualify for that type of surgery.
  • Ian:

The Jersey Shore Workout: Get Ripped, Get Chicks!
  • Ha ha!
  • Being that "ripped" is such a turn off to me. I know everyone's different, but I look at that with an "ugh" expression on my face.

ANYWAYS, A lot of those ads for various weight loss or even acne based commercials are bogus I think. It's so easy to take a picture of someone looking great, and then they gain weight and switch the before and after. Along with what you showed, people who probably got paid to step in a pair of jeans of size that I'd like to be, to appear to have lost weight.

Luckily they aren't fooling anyone here it doesn't seem. Ahh society.. sigh.
  • Well, now I am getting women's shoes.

So, what's the bigger turn off? Ripped? Or a guy turning up in a pair of these babies?
  • If I guy approached me wearing coral colour flats with a cute flowery bow on them, I'd probably be saying wtf. I don't care what anyone does really, I'm generally a judgement free zone. But I'm just not attracted to the "jacked" dudes. Anyone can do what they please, obviously. And I won't care either way (I don't mean that rudely either, no other way to say it).

Haha, but this reminds me of when I convinced my boyfriend to wear a bikini (in the privacy of our bedroom of course). He put the flip flops on and all. Made a skanky movement and I basically ordered him to take that sh*t off. Haha oh funny days.
  • Yeah, men in bikinis never did end well.

  • HAHAHA. That's funny, didn't even see that thread. Frick I'd say go for it. Maybe without the top. Get a speedo and take goal pictures in it--no shame. It was just weird when my bf started posing and acting like a girl. Haha never want that image in my head. He's such a manly man too. So strange.
  • He would be a worthy addition to the men's section if he ever saw the need!
