First 4 weeks of the year... I ate no weekly points. NONE. I lost 3-5 pounds every week. The next three weeks... I experimented with different levels of weekly points. Ate them all = No loss. Ate half = no loss. Ate 15 of them = no loss. I'm done!
Everyone kept saying "your body will adjust to it and you'll start losing". That's total BS. My body doesn't need to get used to eating. It needs to get used to eating LESS.
I know we do these "Weekly points" discussions all the time but I'm really ticked off at myself this time. I KNEW they didn't work for me. I knew it, and I let other people convince me with some cock and bull story about "getting used to it". So I had a 3 week complete stall in my weight loss and then a GAIN this week of a pound, where if I would have listened to ME... I could be down another 6-10 pounds by now.
So that's it. I'm not eating another weekly point until I hit maintenance.
I find WW frustrating for that same reason-I feel like there's always a way to manipulate the system, or a way that WW works for some people where it may not work for me. GOOD FOR YOU for figuring out what does and does not work for you though-seriously, I know of alot of people who have gotten frustrated when WW "didn't work" the way they thought it would and just gave up. IT sounds like you know what works for you, and you're going to stick to that no matter what. You're doing great, and I'm sure you'll new plan will help you be successful!!
Yup, have to agree, not eating the weekly points = greater loss. Eating half of my weekly points = half the loss. Eating all of them = no loss.
WW is all math, why wouldn't the weekly points be!
Actually thanks for reminding me and confirming for me, I've been slacking and using most of my weekly points and getting mad that I wasn't losing as much as I wanted. This post was just what I needed to remind me!
I think you made a good point.. it's quite easy to manipulate and "work the system". I guess I've found that what works for me is to just NOT try to work the system. If I make an effort to find the most possible food I can eat for the least possible points, I'm not losing weight. If i just eat normal foods and track what I eat, that's when I drop weight. I have to take out any kind of manipulation. Yeah, I am going to choose a lower point snack over a higher point... but for example, my WW buddy will split her meal into two entries (one midday and one evening) because sometimes that lowers the points by one. That's complete manipulation and goes against the whole spirit of WW.
I'm not quitting... no way! Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it.
Glad you are figuring out what works for you! To me that is what WW is all about.
I try not to dip into my weekly points but I like knowing they are there just in case. I thought they weren't meant to be consumed on a regular basis (but maybe I understood it wrong). Meaning, if I go do over and have to dip into them, it isn't the end of the world. I am still working the plan and taking advantage of one of the WW tools.
Same with activity points, if I'm not hungry, I don't eat them. If I am hungry, I will. Again, it is all about working with and staying in the plan.
Like a PP, I don't get "gaming" the system since it won't do anything but slow your weight loss. But to each their own I guess.
yep! i cant even think about touching my weekly's or i gain!
no joke.
ive been eating healthier than i have my entire life, and even going over my dailys in an extra slice of wheat bread will make me gain.
it sucks :\
i get why they give weekly allowance points but in the end, the people who arent truly committed to restricting their diets, those who use all weekly points, will get fed up with the system and quit because they wont lose anything, or at least not as much as they hope.
So glad you started this thread.. I was just wondering the same thing. I wish we could hear some input from people who do eat their weeklies and loose. Are they really active? Are they super strict on logging? Do they weigh their food? I just keep thinking that the weeklies are for when I don't weigh my food. I don't really want to eat them, but its good wiggle room for tracking mistakes. I usually don't go over 10pts. thou.
I use about 9 of those suckers a week. And it is usually for alcohol. I haven't had a gain yet. But, some days I am going to bed with 15 points extra.... It is hard to crack the code of all this. For me, the important part is being strict on my tracking. Every SINGLE BLT.
My sister doesn't track some days if she only eats a 6" sub from subway and like a yogurt. Crazy college kid. But unfortunately for her, she has had several weeks where she gains. Tracking is so insanely important.

As someone who uses on average half of her weekly points, tho some weeks it's more and some less -- I can say yes to all of the above, although "Really" active is subjective. But I practice yoga once a week, run a few times a week, and have started using kettle bells once or twice a week. I track everything I eat and use my food scale religiously.
Thank you Tudor ROse---- Congratulations, sounds like you got the plan working for you!!! Your story is very inspiring! I read you blog last week and have started doing the couch to 5k app. Ive always dreamed of jogging. I started monday last week and I feel really hopeful! And I will take your advice and commit to logging all my food and weighing as much as possible. I hope I can one day have the success you have earned!
skinnyT - Yep, I eat them all and lose. Some weeks better than others, but still a loss. I also earn a weekly average of 30 APs via my ActiveLink and measure, weigh, track and log EVERY SINGLE thing that goes into my body. I do all of the research before I step foot in a restaurant, too.
My official WI day is Saturday and I splurge on the weekends using all of my weeklies then. I've done too many times of not "splurging" and still living life while losing that I eventually quit and just maintain. I hate the feeling of "dieting" and when it's a lifestyle change - life still happens, which includes the occasional splurge - in my opinion.
Example: This Saturday I went out to a bachelorette party and I still tracked. I knew I'd be blowing my points out so I was good throughout the day (including going to a bridal shower where I ate ahead of time and running 3 miles before the party so I'd earn APs) but like I said, I tracked. I used 87 points. I get 34 daily and used 53/49 weeklies/APs. I RARELY dip into my APs, but it was worth it then. That was Saturday and today I'm down .6lbs already. I'll probably earn 30 APs through out the week, but won't touch them.

I do weigh and measure all my foods. I earn 4-6 APs (calculated by ActiveLink) every day (and I do have a desk job), and I eat most of my WPA. I use those most of those points for more protein and dairy. I have dessert once a week and snack on fruits, vegetables, yogurt and cheese.
WoW---QuilterInVA and SoMuchFattitude!!!! Amazing results so far!!!
Im seeing a common thread here. It looks like all you guys are serious trackers/weighers and exercisers. Im so excited about this program. I really feel like I could do this for a long time and still enjoy my life. Im just so surprised this could work, but you guys are the proof!!!
I came to ww from ideal protein and Im loosing, Im happy and I have enough energy to run!
Wow, this is an interesting thread. I try to leave some WPs on the table each week, but I don't think I've been able to leave more than 20. I go over my DPs most days...if only by 2 or 3 points a day.
I've lost 14 pounds in a month and a half (about 2 pounds a week). I am extremely active. I work out for an hour or more 6 days a week (both cardio and weight-training).
When I first did WW back in 2009, I lost 70 pounds in about a year and I usually ate most of my weekly points.
I know its whatever works for you. I sometimes eat all my WP and still I see a loss.
Goodluck to everyone of us doing WW! As what its always been said " you dont gain overnight and loose it overnight too it takes time" Dont get frustrated and give up. If today it fails tomorrow is another day and just move forward. And in no time we will all reach our goals. If not today then tomorrow
