Smile It's all Greek to me!

I'm going to a birthday party on Friday and it's going to be at...dun dun DUN! A Greek restaurant. Normally I research restaurants ahead of time and give myself 2 or 3 options that I know are healthy and fit into my low-cal/low starch plan (I'm not super strict). With the Super Bowl over and 2 more birthdays within 2 weeks (that's 4+ "special dinners") I pretty much can't slip up at this birthday outing! I have to choose something on the healthy/low cal side and this restaurant has no website and no posted menu.

I know that Greek food is generally rather healthy but does anyone have any healthy favourites they want to point me towards? Frankly, I am tired of chicken souvlaki and greek salad so anything besides that would be awesome! I am very open to "unusual" food (except seafood unfortunately. You have no idea how much I've tried to like seafood and I sample some regularly from other plates and I still can't stomach it).

Hm... I'm a vegetarian, so others may have better meat recommendations, but my favorite greek foods are spanakopita (spinach pie) and dolmas (stuffed grape leaves). They're not as healthy as a greek salad, but still not terrible. Definitely stay away from the moussaka, which is eggplant, ground beef, and bechamel sauce with a little bit of potato sometimes thrown in. If they have Avgolemono (chicken lemon) soup that might be another good option. And of course, falafel.

...Can you tell I love greek food?

I would probably go with a chicken pita, or kabob.... if you eat meat.

I would eat a kabob and maybe a salad. Yum!

I'm another vegetarian and I have to say that my absolute favorite is falafel. Yum! Honestly, if I were you, I'd probably just get a side salad, since you'll be doing so many other outings/superbowl. You can always eat beforehand.

Everyone else has given you great options. You can always ask for gyros to be served over a salad without the bread and mayo and have the dressing on the side. That's all I have.

My personal favorite is chicken shawarma over a salad with tzatziki sauce on the side.

Greek Salad. I could just have a huge huge plate of that and be happy forever and ever. (maybe see if you can get the dressing on the side for better control) Maybe a kabob too... yum. I want Greek food now!
