I'm new to the forum and I've decided to do a "fad" diet to get jump started on my continuing weight loss goal. I was up late last night and found the Cabbage Soup Diet, and have decided to give it a go because it seems to have pretty great fast weight loss. Of course, most of that is water, but it will be a good jump start. Especially less than 2 weeks before Valentine's Day! I'm headed to the store today for the soup ingredients and fresh fruit & veggies (the first 3 days of the diet). I'd love if any of you wanted to join! I will be posting my daily menus, weigh-ins, and how I'm feeling and I would love to have a diet buddy. If you don't have time to start today, join me tomorrow!
Make sure you're taking a multi-vitamin as well. The cabbage soup diet does not have all the nutrients you need. Its great for fast water-weight loss, but you will gain it back.
I have tried the cabbagge soup diet many years ago and I was starving throughout the diet, lost a couple of lbs, needless to say I gained it all work.
I hope it goes better for you and dont go beyond 10 days..
wowsza im suprised to see all this negativaty attched to a diet ....
ive tried it in the past with great sucsess , ive lost about 7 lbs in a week and was never hungry it helped with my constipation and improved my complexion markably ..... i even managed to maintain it and continue on a downward path after the jump start was over .....
unfourtunatley the plan requires serious commitment which i didnt have .... by the end of my 5 months of weight loss i got down to where i liked
i did gain alot of it back ( 2 years later ) because it crept up on me because i got spoiled and started not keeping tabs on myself and convincing myself that a "little " treat would not hurt me ....
( they where not little treats lol )
but if you are dedicated it does and can work and you will not be hungry
on a side note be aware i didnt care for the soup but thats not the point the point is i lost weight and was not hungry

I didn't see any excessive negativity.
"Fad" diets, even based around vegetables, tend to be hard to maintain. Even if they aren't they also tend to be lacking in nutrition.
The other issue is that they are low in calories, meaning you might drop water weight fast, cool jumpstart to weight loss, but as soon as you start eating what you're really intending to eat for weight loss you're body is going to put that water weight right back on, albeit maybe not all of it.
I think most people on here are aware that you should start with something you're going to maintain forever, not a 'jumpstart fad diet' which will leave you depressed when you lose ten lbs and gain five back.
Modifyeddoll must be on the defensive because she knows it doesn't really work long-term. Where's the negativity? We are simply saying the truth of what usually happens with "fad" diets and trying to warn the OP of it. Chill.
I totally second thewalrus' post. I honestly think you would be better off starting lower calorie with a variety of lean meats and/or legumes if you're veg-whatever, fruit, and veggies in your diet.
Anyway, good luck with it. I do hope you're able to stick with it after you're done even if you happen to re-gain when going back to "normal" meals.
While I know this may not be everyone's experience but I had a terrible reaction to this diet. I fainted and some of my hair fell out after about 4 days.
I have had good success using the Mimosa Soup recipe from French Women Don't Get Fat as a way to detox before starting a diet. It lasts about two days and then I used the Sonoma Diet starting with Wave 2 to lose weight after that. I went from 225 to 180!
Thanks for all your feedback. I do take a complete prenatal multivitamin (not pregnant, just a higher dose of all necessary nutrients for mid-20ish women) and a complete B-complex supplement. Also, I have lost a little under 30 lbs over the past few years and I'm at the last 10lbs I wish to lose - started at 160 after medication made me gain quickly, now at 135, looking to end up at 125/120. I know the diet is low in calories and protein, and I am careful with that, but for 10 days I know I am healthy enough to handle it. I am quite active - cardio and weightlifting - but I will take a brief break from my workouts while doing this diet so to avoid burning the few calories I am taking in. I plan to walk every day with my dog for about an hour total and do easy body-weight resistance strength training.
Yesterday, I ate 4 servings of the soup, 2 small empire apples, 2 oranges, half a pint of blueberries, and a few handfuls of green grapes. Roughly 800-900 calories and 40g of fiber!
Today, I have had a cucumber, 1/4 of a jicama, and 2 servings of soup.
I feel great, not too hungry, but I am used to always being a little on the hungry side. I will not be weighing myself until the end of the first 7 days so I'll let you know how I do!
i felt that there was negativaty because it seemed like evreyone was telling the original poster that the idea in a nutshell is a fail and she was doomed to fail ....
im not defensive amandie , sorry if you felt that way so you please *chill* .... i just THOUGHT the idea of the quick start was being bashed , and i was expressing that i myself have experianced sucsess on this program myself , i thought this was a weight loss forum where we where free to express opinions and such?

different things work for differant people !
Notice the bold? Exactly. Just as you are free to express your opinion, we are free to express ours, sweetie. Anyway, I'm done since it seems to be getting off-topic.
Hey i have done it on and off n the past when i am trying to lose bloat, havent' done in it a few years, when hit a low last week, and decided i needed a booster, i lost 7lbs in the week i am now 2 days off it and it hasn't come back
Drink plenty of water and eat loads of what your allowed .
Also i have littel to no desire for chocolate now as i'd love something instead like a scrambeled egg lol so it helps to eliminate all the cravings for junk..
good luck..
PS also had such an energy boost for the week
influx of all the veg and fruit
I have done this diet in the past and lost 8.5 pounds the first time I did it, I did not cheat.
And I maintained it for quite a while after I did it. It made me feel like eating less.
I did feel very tired and weak, but I could still do some cardio. I won't lift while I am doing this.
I think this diet is a great jumpstart if you are stuck and can't seem to lose weight.
Of course you lose water weight. All diets have you lose water weight.
So I am giving it a try today, will see how much I lose this time, I am hoping 8 pounds again.
I went on this last year just before a wedding with my best friend, I actually really enjoyed it. But I was going to the gym every single day, but I didn't get the memo that says that you shouldn't do this diet along with excessive exercise.
Two friends, exact same diet, had the exact same meals each day, only I was at the gym.
Friend lost 7lbs in just 7 days
I put on 2lbs
Every body works differently, I seem to of bloated up, where my friend seemed to of been flushed out.
I did this diet yearrrss ago and really loved it. I love that it switches up everyday which keeps it interesting and it doesn't feel restrictive at all. On the banana and milk day I added splenda and vanilla to the milk which was really yummy. Have fun!
