New and need help on figuring out this BMR diet. So frustrated and discouraged!

  • Hello everyone,
I am trying to figure out how many calories I should be consuming a day. I was doing 1200 and was losing weight but I have been plateaued for months. I was wondering about eating my BMR. When I look this up it ranges from 1600 to 1900 which is a huge difference. Getting very frustrated and down. I work so hard and don't see any difference so guess what I started binging on the weekends cause what's the point. So looking for something different thought maybe if I ate more consistent but higher cal than the 1200 I will se a change. I am new here and reaching out for support for some guidance. I work out 3 to 4 days a week but unfortunately I have a desk job which is killing me on getting this weight off.
    Thanks for any advice.
    Have a good day
  • People here are going to need Ht. & Wt. to help...
  • Sorry...I thought that showed up since I added it to my profile..lol
I'm currently at 185lbs goal weight 145, height 5'6, and I am 32 yrs old.
    Thanks
  • Just did a quick BMR calc with those stats and I got 1620...

So you could definitely up your calories to at least 1500 and see if that gets the scale moving in the right direction for you... then you could always tweak your macros to see if that helps as well...
  • We're about the same in stats. I've been doing 1400 calories a day and losing weight steadily. Your body may be getting used to the calorie restrictions. It sounds counter-productive, but try raising your daily calories to 1300 a day and choose one day a week to eat 1600 calories. This seems to help some people.

I suggest a weekend day. I use Saturdays as my cheat day because its the hardest day for me to follow my diet.
  • Thanks. I'm hoping that it will get things moving. Just hard to believe I can eat that much and lose weight. Always hear of as a women eating 1200 cal to lose weight.
  • I've been eating 1500 and losing weight at the rate of about 1lb per week. I exercise now, but that was also low enough for me lose when I was sedentary (the losses were pretty slow, but they happened).

The only way to know the perfect number for you is to experiment with it. If you feel like you're extremely hungry, tired, etc, then it's a good chance you're eating too few calories. You just have to keep adjusting until you find that sweet spot.
