Stuck in 140s! for months!

  • I can't seem to shake the 140s!! I have been this way for about 2-3 mths. I am down to 145, but stupid water weight makes me go between 145-147!!! and I can't break the 145 mark. I just started doing couch to 5k last week...before that I was walking and started jogging up to 7-9 mins. I HOPE with me jogging it will start to come off. BUT if I am jogging am I building muscle maybe? I used to calorie count when I started out now I watch what I eat and round off the calories.
    I just feel like my body likes the 140s and is settled on it whether I like it or not. My goal is to be 140 or less by the end of the year and it is starting to feel impossible to reach it. Plus since it's getting colder I don't know if your metabolism slows down or not?? Just a good thought huh? lol

    Anyone else been stuck in a rut for months? Please shed some light on this so I can start having some hope. I am going to be SOOOO happy when I reach the 130s! I haven't been there since the late 90s! lol

  • I was stuck in the 150's for a long time. To get my weight loss going again I had to be meticulous with counting calories. I suggest going back to counting your calories better. It gets harder as you get closer to goal...you have to be even more aware of your food choices and amounts. Increased exercise is good and lifting weights would be a good idea, too. You can do this.
  • First, building muscle is a REALLY good thing. It helps increase your metabolism, and will help you drop sizes even if your weight isn't changing much. But, no, you aren't likely to build significant muscle with jogging.

    Secondly, people's bodies react differently to jogging. If you continue to be very careful about calories, it may indeed be helpful.

    Finally, maybe you should consider weight lifting. Many of our most successful featherweights lift really heavy, and their bodies are kickin'. Long afterburn, higher metabolism, awesome curves. What's not to love?

    I had a feeling it was coming! the calorie counting! I hate it lol..with a passion. I am gonna have to MAKE myself do this, because I am not in the mood to count. hahaha. It's just one of those things. In the beginning it was easy but since I am kinda liking my figure now it's getting harder to force myself to count calories.
    I will try, guess I need too if I want to get into the 130s.
  • I just recently picked up jogging for 12-13 minutes at a time every evening and I have gained several pounds of water weight. I haven't been able to lose a pound in the last 2 weeks since I started. Also, I have been eating more calories because I am much hungrier than before I started running. So I have to really be careful otherwise it's easy for me to "break even" during the day instead of create a deficit.
  • I have been stuck in the 150s since around March! I just can't get solidly into the 140s. I was exercising like crazy over the summer to try and shake the weight off, but it only made me ravenously hungry and retain water. I still couldn't get into the 140s for more than 2 or 3 weeks before bouncing back into the 150s. I now have cut way back on exercise and have been refocused on tracking calories. So far, I am pretty much maintaining between 151-153. I still can't get below 150 again. I wish I had the magic answer to breaking a plateau. All we can do is stick to our dieting plans and hope for the best.
  • You're only 10 pounds from your goal, so it's going to take a while unless you drastically reduce your calories - and why do that? You say you're happy with your figure, so maybe you need to combine sticking to a reasonable calorie goal and being patient. Easier said than done, I know, but I think it's better than getting frustrated at not getting the results you want. Good luck!
