Getting mentally ready to lose the weight?

  • Hi, I'm new to IP but I can tell it is really working for me, no hunger, I've never felt like this since I was young! Willpower is not an issue, I never would have believed it! Loads of energy and optimism about the future!

BUT, I know I have issues that led me to being overweight to begin with, and I had a very serious problem with an eating disorder as a teen and young adult. So even though I've finally found the diet that works for me, and I'm really motivated to get healthy for myself and my beautiful family, I'm afraid the control issues I have are going to sabotage me in the end, or pop up in a different area of my life. So if there is anything I can do to set myself up for success, I want to be proactive about it.

So my question is for those who might have had similar issues: is there anything that helped you prepare mentally for your weight loss? A book, an activity, anything?

    Thanks!
  • Hi, Check out the 12 steps (google them) for compulsive behaviors. (They are the steps that are used by groups such as AA and Over eaters Anonymous.) They may provide you with some structure to help think through your issues... Hopefully others will provide you with some more concrete answers but the steps could provide some assistance... GOOD LUCK!!! You'll do great!!!
  • I will do that! Great suggestion! Thank you!!!
