I Think My Scale Is Broken...

  • Okay, I just started my "diet" on the Sunday,
and my scale says I'm down 5 pounds as of today... Is my scale broken???
I'm leery to change my weight on here so soon because I don't to step on the scale again in a few days and notice that I have gone up.

I realize how little this post is, if you guys want to know my 'plan/story' I wrote a thread in the "Intro" category.

I feel great already, and I almost feel like it's 'all in my head.'

Does or has anyone ever felt like this??
  • Hi & welcome! It's common to have a big loss in the first week of a diet. You're usually eating a smaller volume of food, so you have less food-weight going through your system. You're usually also eating better quality food and drinking more water, which reduces water retention.

It's less common to see the scale go back up this early in the game, but it's always possible, so don't let it stress you out. I weigh daily and expect those types of fluctuations, but many people prefer to weigh weekly or monthly because it's more motivating to see a smaller number more often. You kind of have to experiment and see what works for you.

    Keep up the good work!
  • Thank you so much for replying!
I was told that I should weigh myself weekly but so far I can't, I sort of seem anxious to know if its working, lol. I'm sure eventually I will get to the point that I just weigh myself weekly, but we will see.
I did measure basically everything except for my toes (or so it seemed) and I will probably do that bi weekly.
  • Hi and welcome When first starting out, alot of people experience a big woosh from, like the person above me stated, your system clearing out. Your prob eating better and foods with less sodium, so your body is letting go of the extra water. It'll start to slow down and when it does don't feel discouraged

If your daily weighing, expect few pound fluctuations. Its normal

Congrats on starting And good luck
  • Hello, thanks!
I watched your video, amazing job girl, I cannot wait to look good in a bikini! If that is even possible.

My Mom told me that I'm big boned and won't be skinny like most of you girls.. I would be happy if I could shop in stores in the mall, that are not plus size stores!
Even if I end up a size 12 I would be super happy. That's like.. Half of what I am right now, it seems so far fetched and unrealistic.
Did any of you buy a 'Goal Outfit'??
If so, how did you know what size to get?
Did you just get what size you wanted to be?
I was talking to my mom about a Goal Outfit and she told me it would probably just be disappointing because she thinks I'm big boned.
    Help??
  • Elo - yeah fluctuations are normal, I wouldn't let what your mom discourage you heck I would be happy even if I still had to shop in plus sized sections but just not be the biggest sizes/and or fit the "plus" sizes in places like forever 21. My "goal size" is the START size of most of my friends offline, but I've been bigger for longer. I find even that size hard to imagine I haven't been a size 14 since 7th grade.
  • EEP...THank you

I'm currently a size 12. With our height we can look amazing at that size, and sickly at an ideal 6 if our frames are not small....Losing 100+ pounds can seem daunting but it helps if you break it into smaller mini goals and give yourself rewards for reaching them =D...You'll be at your goal before you know it, and you'll have an amazing story and experience because of it

No goal outfit but I would start buying a size down in clothes sometimes to motivate me just that much more...
  • Thanks so much for the encouragement ladies!
Yeah, I'm trying to work out some smaller mini goals, but I don't know how big or small to make them.
I feel like if I make them too small then I'm not challenging myself,
and if I make them to big I'm going to feel disappointed.

In a year I hope to still be on this website, seeking encouragement for maintaining my weight, but I feel like that's probably pushing it too.
(this would be a long term goal.)
