Hello ~ I'm back... after a long time. <3

  • Greetings from a long over due absentee... Been a long time since I have been here... But I managed to find my way back to 3fc... My name is Kitty & I was here quite a few years ago... Lost 60 lbs on SBD... then managed to gain it back & then some...

I have recently moved back to the eastern US, after volunteering/living in India for 16 years.. The stress of re-adjusting to the west has not been easy for me... but I'm coping... I'm close to my all time heaviest weight which is a depressing slap in my face... My energy is sluggish & I generally feel like crap. I'm 43 & know this is it.. I MUST get healthy & stick to it.. The older I get the harder it will be...

I have dabbled following WW food plan, but counting points is beyond me at this point. A friend last week reminded me of how well I did following SBD back in 2006/07... & It was like a light bulb went off. I know I can do this.. So here I am!

I'm starting phase 1 on Monday (My roomate will be gone 8-9 days so I can focus on getting into "the groove" without distractions.)

One thing different this time around (besides being in the US... & having canned beans available)... is I have recently had to give up ALL dairy. I can't digest/process it. Anyone else here following SB without dairy? I'd be interested in any advice.

I recognize a fair number of folks here from way back when & see many new folks here as well. I look forward to reconnecting & getting to know the newer faces.

  • Welcome back Kitty I just turned 50 and I definitely find that the closer I stick to South Beach principles the better I feel, not just weight but inflammation, moods and the ever popular "power surges".

I don't drink milk but am kind of a cheese addict, so not much help with the dairy. I know there have been some dairy free Chicks around though and there are some tips floating around here.

Hope you will join us in the Daily
  • I remember you. Welcome back.
  • back! Can't help you on the dairy thing other than to offer different sources - my DW is lactose intolerant and we only use Almond milk now. There are great options out there now.

    Post often.
  • BACK, Kitty! I remember you also.

I have no problem with dairy products, but there are so many substitutes readily available that I don't think you'll have any problems following this plan.
  • Welcome back, to the US and to SBD!! I remember you too!

    Good luck!
  • Welcome back! I do SBD without dairy, with the exception of yogurt.

    Best wishes!
  • Thanks all for the warm welcome~ I remember leaning sooo much on cheese & yogurt to get me through SBD last time... Oh well. Just need to be more creative I guess.
I'll post in the daily more on my thoughts/querys of the dairy free SBD.

  • Hi, Kitty! I like your quote. Our battle is mental and emotional and physical. I've always been overweight and until just recently, I always thought that I would always be overweight. It is a revelation for me to think that that does not have to be the case. Good luck to us both in making smart choices today!
  • Nice to meet you. I've done WW before too and so can't get into the point thing anymore.
  • Welcome back Kitty, I remember you as well
