I'm really having a hard time determining if I'm eating too little, too much, or just right. I don't count calories (I feel like once I start doing that, I'll get obsessed, and plus, turned away from dieting.)
Here's today (which I'm concerned about):
Breakfast: English muffin with one egg, slice of cheese, and two slices of Canadian bacon.
Lunch: One of those tasty nutritional drinks. I got hooked on them when I was ill. They're about 250 calories. A banana.
Dinner: A large plate of spaghetti, half a root beer, half of a bagel, a bowel of cereal.
I did run 6.5 miles today in fairly good time. I'm worried about eating too little. Last time I started getting into jogging and dieting I ate too little and stopped my period for two months, and didn't loose a single pound. (Starvation mode.)
I don't know if I'd call it a binge, but your diet doesn't seem balanced. What are your goals? If you're OK with your weight, I think you may need to add some fruits and vegis, as I don't see much there, other than a banana.
Also, your dinner probably needs some vegis and protein and less carbs and sugar.
You don't state any portion sizes, so it's hard to tell, but you may have more of a quality problem than an quantity problem. This could be leading you into a bit of high carb eating/bingeing at dinner, as your body isn't getting many vitamins and minerals, so it doesn't feel fed.
So, more balanced and healthier would seem to be appropriate.
Evaluate your goals and make some better nutritional decisions.
I don't count calories, so I can't say if in your eyes you're eating too much, or too little.
But I do think you're eating too much of the wrong foods, imo. The only fruit/veggie you had for the day was a banana, that should be higher, again in my opinion.
I quickly calculated your calories at about 1600 (sorry if I'm wrong), which is in the range for someone of your height I do believe, but I would definitely try to eat less carbs and more fruits/veggies.
just observation ..doesnt seem like youre including fresh fruit & veggies which are truly beneficial..i'd get rid of the nutritional drink and just drink ie plain water or fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and definitely limit your carbs to before 2pm. Just sayin
When I was reading it, I didn't think it was too bad until I got to the dinner section! Bagel and cereal sound like individual breakfast dishes and could even be considered a 4th meal.
I don't think it was a binge, I think you MAY have overeaten but not enough to be considered binge eating. Here's a brilliant website and I've linked to the food plan tool: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/supertr...ood-plans.html
It tells you how many calories you should be eating to lose weight (if you're overweight it will come up with a warning, but proceed anyway) and also, more importantly, WHAT you should be eating. Like a few others have already noticed, your diet just needs a bit of variety!
Personally, I would cut out the bacon in the morning and replace it with fruit and cut out all side dishes during dinner, so just the spaghetti would have been fine. I, too, don't count calories, but I have an idea of how many I'm eating and try and get the variety in my diet based on the food plan I linked to.
Sounds like maybe a bit of overeating, with all the evening snacking, and WAY too many carbs and not enough protein or veggies. Breakfast looks fine to me (I'd keep the bacon, since it appears to be one of the few bits of protein you've got), maybe add an orange or something. I'd try to eat real food for lunch, if possible, and maybe a veggie. Toss in a veggie/protein snack (broccoli and hummus, celery with a little peanut butter, carrots and a cheese stick) between lunch and dinner so you don't feel so hungry and overeat at dinner. Get rid of the extra carbs at dinner (soda, bagel, cereal), add a veggie, add a piece of fruit for dessert.
