Default Detoxes ...Accupuncture - Thoughts?

Hey guys,

I've been doing a little digging on the internet and was looking for good, effective and safe ways to detox. I figure after years of eating absolute junk/garbage, maybe a couple of weeks of cleaning out couldn't hurt. What are your thoughts on Detox diets not for weight loss persay but its a nice side effect but overall. Have u guys tried any?

Also, because I was looking all of this up I ran across accupuncture and Eastern herbal medicine as a way to set your body "straight" for lack of a better term. To get everything back in its normal way.. balance the yin/yang etc What are your thoughts (or experiences) on that as well? Thanks!

Hey Merissa,

So, I haven't done acupuncture myself, but my mom has. She enjoyed it. She didn't have many sessions, but she felt relief for pain in her neck.

I really really want to try it. I also really like tai chi. That might be fun to try. I know there are podcasts on itunes about it and videos on youtube.

Let me know if you end up doing anything!

If you're going to do a detox don't use the pills they sell. Have water, fruit and veggies (I would do this on a weekend since I become a complete b1tch if I'm hungry and I'd only do it for two days, not a whole 10 day detox like some people will say to do) Usually two days and even one is enough because your body will quickly get accustom to the healthy food at least mine does!

As for accupuncture it's not something I would do or have even bothered to look into it.

Acupuncture has been researched a lot and I think its been found to be useful in things like chronic pain, but I've never read anything about it being good for weight loss or "detoxing". Other than that, I agree with Miz- a detox involving eating lots of fresh fruit and veg and less processed stuff is good, but the ones you buy in boxes, you know the "lemon detox" etc, are just bollocks and you might as well send your money to me

hi guys thanks for the input!

Yeah, i was thinking along the lines of raw foods diet for a few days... fruits and veggies. I figured the boxed detox diets are bs, but I wanted to ask anyway incase one worked for someone .
I also wanted to hit different colors -- oranges, yellows, purples, greens, blues etc. For accupuncture, maybe as a de-stressor! :-)

i agree with mizt and iconized...i just want to add that if you decide to do a fruit and veggie weekend, incorporate 2 servings of citrus daily (more if its like a small clemetine or a tangerine). its a natural diuretic and will help flush out your system

I've had lots of Acupuncture done in the past to help tame my Fibromyalgia and get some form of relief without the side effects of medications. Works like a charm and is very relaxing.

I've never heard that it helps with 'detoxing' your body tho. I have gone to a colon therapist before tho (sounds weird I know) but she helped 'flush' me out when I was not able to on my own (again - results of being on narcotics for long periods of time). I probably lost about 10-20lbs when I went to bi-weekly sessions with her for a few months.

Like the ladies have said above tho - raw veggies & fruits are the most natural approach to getting a proper 'detox' rather than the boxed 'detox'.
