food scales?

  • what kind of food scale would you recommend?
i've seen both kinds, digital and non.
    which is easier to use?
i plan on picking one up tomorrow but have a limited budget.
so any advice would be nice.

I'm tired of guessing if what I'm eating is enough or too much.
    thanks a bunch
  • I bought a food scale last week and I've been using it everyday. I love it! I'm also on a limited budget and found one that is perfect. It does what it needs to do and was under $5.00 at Walmart. Nothing fancy, but for $5.00 it's great for me.
  • I love my digital scale. One feature that I would check for is the "tare" or "0" button. This lets you put a bowl or something on the scale and then reset the scale to 0 to weigh just the food in the bowl.
  • Thank you Peanutt for mentioning that...I forgot to. Mine came with a measuring cup/bowl not sure what to call it really (very odd shapped). Once the bowl is on the scale, it reaches zero so that it doesn't influence the weight of the food.

Many of the digital ones allow you to put a plate/bowl on the scale, zero it out ("tare"), put an ingredient on, zero it out, and so on. The weight limit is a lot higher than the kind you describe, so you can say, make a salad and measure it all in the same bowl without weighing and dumping, weighing and dumping, etc. It's a lot more precise than the scales that are not digital. I used one like you described for years, and it did the job, but I just got a new digital one at Target. It's a lot more precise and makes the weighing a lot easier. It was on clearance for $25, I think. I'm loving it.
  • got mine at wal-mart also .

mine is the biggest looser name and it was $12.
  • Got mine at Big Lots for $20. You definitely want the zero/tare feature that was mentioned. It makes things alot easier....and mine can be set for grams or ounces too.
  • Also check for a design that will let you see the display easily when a bowl or pot is on the scale.
  • awesome, thanks a bunch.
hopefully i can find a good one
  • Also look for one that you can switch from oz to grams, and try to get one that has that switch on the top on the scale. Mine is on the botton and it's a pain in the arse!
