Bedtime Munchy Help

  • Ugh! They are the worst!

Especially the first week when I get on plan again. I find that just going to sleep helps, but sometimes, I just can't say no.

Suggestions? What foods don't make you feel guilty while consuming at night?

Popcorn is my solution tonight I thought about FF cheese, but that would be gone in a jiffy...no pun intended lol
  • Gum, gum and more gum. Hot tea. Fage yogurt with cinnamon and sweetener (some people like Splenda....I use Zsweet which is 0 calories and all natural made from fruit). Frozen grapes are great...take a looong time to eat. Hope you can stay on plan.
  • I can't chew gum due to jaw issues, but otherwise I would suggest that. I go with popcorn. If I crave salty, instead of chips I go for the 100 cal butter. If i crave sweet, i go for the 100 cal kettle corn. Both are Orville R. 94% fat free. I also add a low or no cal drink like hot tea.
  • Hot tea has made a huge change for me. If I get the urge to snack at night I just make a cup and it fills me right up. You can use some no calorie sweetner. I've always hated tea, but I was reading a book that talked about all it's benefits (green tea, black tea) so I decided to give it a shot. I usually have 3 to 4 mugs a day now.
  • Oooo, Tea! I forgot how much I used to like that - thanks friends!

Tonight my (night) food was salad - I mixed a half head of lettuce with some Newman's Balsalmic, celery, and green onion. Definetely NOT comfort food, but I've been able to snack on it for awhile so I feel like I've chewed a lot, lol.

Does anyone else have problems the first week of starting their diet...I mean, 'new lifestyle?'

Everytime I try and make a change, I'm STARVING the first few days. And its NOT because I'm not eating enough. I eat plenty, but then I get the night snack syndrom so I need to pig out on things that do the least damage. I hate it! I know that once I get past the first week, I'm okay, but the first couple days are awful.

Here's to day 2 down. I think I'll be good if I can get through my first weekend.

    Happy almost Hump day!
  • My go to snack is Sugar Free/Fat Free Jello with a little Cool Whip Free. That does the trick for me (most of the time).
  • Getupandgo, I really understand how hard it is in the beginning. It takes a few weeks (3 or 4) for your brain to change into a new routine. I've been at this since end of July and I still struggle with nighttime eating though....not every night....it depends on several factors (stress levels, sleep, etc.). I find that eating a bit more protein can help and using very high fiber foods. Salad is a great idea. I'd have some salad and then have some hot tea afterwords. I also think it's good to find a hobby....one that involves your hands like knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, etc. That will take your mind off. T.v. actually is the worst for this but I can't suggest not watching, since I tend to watch it quite a bit to relax in the evenings. You may even want to clean out your closet or a messy drawer or your purse,etc... to keep your mind busy. Either way, as long as you commit to doing this, you'll get through it. When you wake up in the morning, after not giving in to munchies, tell yourself that you did great and that you didn't die. Sometimes, we feel like we're going to die if we don't have a certain something and that's just our mind playing a mean trick on us....one that's no good for our bodies. Hang in there because as you do this right, it will get better.
  • Go outside for a nice long walk.

    It's cold? Bundle up.
It's dark? put on a reflector and carry a flashlight.
No good place to walk? Drive somewhere that is good.

Get out of the house and get moving.
