This is turning into a headache.

  • I've been trying to lower my carb intake. I'm trying to just get carbs from fruit and veggies mainly. My problem is with trying to get less carbs I'm having to eat foods with more fat. So even though I'm staying in my calorie allowance, I'm getting probably 20 or more grams of fat per day then I was before. I don't know if it's going to make any difference with weightloss if I'm getting too much fat. I don't know how to eat less carbs without upping my fat intake. Any suggestions, advice?
  • As a calorie counter I've never really paid too much attention to fat intake. I do try to stay away from "bad fats" but if your fats are coming from whole foods, I'd guess you too are staying away from the bad fats. I don't think I'd worry about the increased fats all that much unless you're seeing an unusual weight gain. Just my 2cents though! Good luck!!
  • That happens to me too when I try to decrease my carb intake-- I end up increasing the fat. I personally haven't had any problem with it so far, because it's been the "good" fats (poly- and monounsaturated) that have been increasing, not the "bad" ones (saturated and trans fats).

I use about.com's Calorie Count to track my calories, and it gives a range of acceptable carb/protein/fat amounts based on your calorie intake, so you might want to check something like that out to see if your fat intake is within a good range. All fat isn't necessarily bad, though, so maybe try it out for a few weeks and see what results you get.
  • I think I will do that, try it out for a week or two and see what happens. If I gain weight then I obviously know it isn't working for me and I can go back to doing what I was before. Thanks.
  • Well, your choices are carbs, protein and fat. So if you are cutting out carbs, you will up your protein and fat intake. And since post proteins also have some fat mixed in with them, that will naturally rise.
