New here looking for support

  • Hi am new here, I have been dieting successfully for about 6 months. I have lost 70 pounds so far, but it has not been easy. I am type II diabetic. Diabetics struggle with weight loss, as I have discovered after extensive research, because of their diet (high glycemic index foods) and excess insulin. Someone steered me to CNET where I downloaded the diet I am using. It was designed for people that are diabetic or struggle to lose weight. It has helped.
Over the past 10 years I have tried so many different things, including Atkins and South Beach; but I always gained the weight back. It has been a very frustrating ordeal.
My goal is to make the 100 lb club. That will likely take a few more months. It would help to have others to work with, because I know that the final pounds can be the most difficult.
  • Looking for advice for a newbie
Hi my name is Tom, I live in Central Florida with my wife and daughter. I have been diabetic (type II) for about 16 years. I gained a lot of weight prior to being diagnosed, which I now know is typical. I spent many years struggling with getting the excess weight off, but always failed. Diabetes fights weight loss. Type II's have a lot of excess insulin, which forces excess glucose into storage as fat, and blocks its release. So we diabetics have to be very careful about what we eat and how much to minimize the amount of glucose and insulin in our system.
I now exercise 3 times each week, primarily on a treadmill. I do up to 10 miles each time at 4.5 mph and a 12% grade. I have substantially increased my aroebic and anaroebic heart rate. Recent xrays showed what is called runner's lungs, which are very large and fully vasculated. To me that is good news, because diabetes destroys blood vessels.
I came to this site in hopes that I will find support to get through the final phases of my journey. I finally found a diet program designed for people like me on a free download website. It is called the desperation diet. I have now lost over 70 pounds and have managed to keep it off. My goal is to reach a maintenance level by year's end.
