  • im following a low carb diet and am wondering if some of you could tell me your favorite kind of protein shake mix. i used to drink the low carb slim fast ones and they were actually really good, but all the stores stopped carrying them. plus it would probably be cheaper to buy the powder anyway and make it myself. recommendations please!! i don't want to waste money and the stuff taste nasty help!
  • I use MLO Super High Protein Powder.

This is one of my favorite smoothies:

    8 oz. 2% milk
    4 oz. Bolthouse Green Goodness
3 T. MLO Super High Protein Powder

Mix it up in a blender and serve over ice.

  • I personally don't like whey protein and I also don't like soy protein, my favorite protein is hemp. You can find various hemp powders in your health food stores, maybe GNC (not sure).
  • I like Jillian Michaels Chocolate Whey. I put it in the blender with 1 cup of no-sugar added organic Silk milk, 1 banana and 2 tsp of ground flax. I have this every single morning and I've not gotten tired of it yet. It also keeps me satisfied until lunch. No hunger!
  • My favorite protein "shake" is a bowl of cottage cheese, which is more or less pure whey protein (73% for 1% fat: higher for fat free). People make smoothies out of it in the blender: I like it better like ice cream, with sweetener and cinnamon.
  • I've just got my first drum of Body Fortress whey powder in vanilla. I love it just as it comes with lactofree milk.

How many calories is this? It sounds like something I might try!
  • I use Gold Standard Whey Protein powder by Optimum Nutrition - I love it. I got it at GNC - they have it on sale right now. It mixes easy and tastes good. Has 24 grams of protein and 3-4 grams of carbs and 110-120 calories. I make mine with 60 calorie Almond Milk. I have even added frozen strawberries and ice and made it into a soft-serve type of ice cream. The flavors I have tried are Vanilla Ice Cream and Double Rich Chocolate (which I mix with a little instant coffee granules and make a frozen mocha). Here is a website that sells it so you can look at the nutrition info if you want - http://www.prosource.net/product_det...2-14ed8a8210e3

  • I use Designer Whey Protein that is chocolate flavored. Your body is able to break down whey better than soy. Here's what I make every morning:

    3/4 cup skim milk
    3/4 cup ice
    fresh strawberries
    fresh banana
    1 scoop designer protein

Super good and keeps you full.
  • FYI, have any of you who use whey seen the Consumer Reports study on contaminants in whey protein powders? Unfortunately, creating a protein isolate is a process which can introduce many contaminants.

Not sure if this image will pull up

    100 calories. I love it!

Nelie - considering the amount of processed foods, fast food, hormone fed meats and sugar I used to eat, I'm not sure that I'm really that concerned with my whey protein. I'm sure that day will come, but I know that I feel wonderful right now. Absolutely wonderful!
  • I'm using a whey chocolate protein powder made by Arbonne.
  • thanks everyone! looks like im headed to gnc tomorrow btw do any of you use water instead of the milk?
