It is a battle every day to not drink something sweet and i lose all the time. It's not soda though it's more sweet teas, lemonades, and any type of juice. I hate it so much i feel like i'm self sabotaging myself but i can't help it. I really need some help guys i don't know what to do anymore and i feel like i will never be able to lose weight .
Cold turkey was the way I had to do it. I was a pop-addict. I could drink 5-7 in a single day. One day, I just stopped cold turkey. Had the worst headaches ever. My moods were unstable. I couldn't sleep.
Then a week or two later, I realized why I'd done it. My skin cleared up. I slept better. My moods were more stable.
If I want flavor, I drink propel every once in a while. Otherwise it's boring old water for me.
I've tried but I always end up making an excuse for myself on how good I did and how it's okay if I drink something sweet but then I end up going overboard and I feel like i messed up so I don't want to try anymore.
You sound like me. I can't have "just a little bit." That's why I had to cut it out completely. You have the strength, believe me. Once you get past it, you'll think how silly it was that something as trivial as a sugary drink put you through so much turmoil.
Here are a few suggestions. First, have you tried making your teas, etc with Splenda or some other form of sugar substitute? That might help you get off the real thing, which is calorie laden. Second, since using a substitute could still prolong your need for a sweet taste, maybe you could just cut down the amount of sugar you use, a little at a time, until you're not using any at all. Also, you could stop drinking juices and eat the whole fruit for a natural sweetness (and fiber!) instead. HTH

That's why I said to completely quit. It's much easier to say "no, I don't drink that" than to try to figure how to work it in.
It HAS to be cold turkey. There can be no other way. Like so many of us here, your history has shown that allowing a little in doesn't work. For many of us there is no thing as moderation.
You've got to just suck it up and do without it. Make the decision to BAN it - totally and completely. No ifs ands or buts. It is no longer an option for you to have it. PEeriod. Make the decision and then see it through. No matter what. Work past the initial, temporary discomfort of saying no to yourself. You will be shocked and amazed to find out that after a much shorter time than you could possibly imagine, how soon you will no longer desire the stuff. But you can't sneak a little in. Be strong. Push yourself and push yourself. You CAN do this. You have the ability to do it.
It's like an alcoholic. You can't have just one drink. Same with sugar. It's a tough time detoxing but then it gets better. Then you want to relapse.. but you remind yourself of that week of detox and how much it sucks and how much you feel out of control
LOL. I quit drinking sweet stuff, coffee black, and now I can hardly stand it. Either make the decision to go completely sugar free and only sugar free (though it'll make you always crave sweets) or do it "cold turkey" and beat it for real without giving up
I admire the ladies who posted here who completely gave up sweet drinks, but I love tea and drink it all the time with Truvia, a natural sweetener.
Everybody has to design their program to suit them, and I wouldn't be happy without my sweet tea (can you guess I'm a Southerner?)
Oh, I think artificial sweeteners are just fine, if they don't make you crave/cave in to the real thing. I put splenda in my coffee all the time. But, I don't crave real sugar drinks so I don't have to look for that extra step to be successful.
If artificial sweeteners triggered a compulsion for empty calories, I'd try to cut back/eliminate.
I drink those Arizona iced-tea sticks that you add to water. I'm probably going to pull a mad-scientist this weekend and try adding it to seltzer and see what happens. Zero calories, PLUS sodium-free carbonation?? It's at least worth a shot! They come in a few flavors, so this staves off a lot of my sweet cravings and I can drink it when I start to feel a little hungry and it helps me hold out until I can get to me-friendly food.
