What shall I do for exercise?

  • I haven't the time to go to a gym as I am the sole carer for my three children (2 years and 3 month old twins) during the day when my husband is out at work. The only time I have to myself is in the evening once they are all in bed. I don't have much room in my house. I can't make too much noise as we're only semi-detatched and our walls are paper-thin so the neighbours hear everything. What do you reccomend for exercise? I need to start getting some or this weight will never shift!
  • I'd suggest a workout video, kickboxing, jillian's 30 day shred, something like that... then the volume depends on how loud you want the tv. Or something like the wii fit would be good and also low volume. Just plain cardio a few minutes at a time throughout the day would work too. lol, heck, chase the oldest around the house!
  • where do you live? What about walking/etc. outside? That fresh air after a day with the kids inside is invigorating!
  • Walk outside with the kids... walk to the park, put the babies in a stroller and go... Wallking is the best all you need is a decent pair of shoes...

My g/f lost all of her weight from walking 20 years ago, she still maintains her weight loss with walking...
  • Yep, I agree that walking is your best bet. Put the twins and your two year old in a stroller and just hit the streets, and you'll be amazed at how quickly your cardio fitness improves, and how much weight will drop off.

Set yourself a measured distance using something like mapmyrun.com and aim to do it faster each week...then extend the distance and the speed.

You'll be super-slim in no time, and the fresh air will do wonders for your mood, your skin and your babies!!! Just make sure to pick a route that avoids shops selling Caramel Bunnies!!!
  • Thanks everyone. I walked the 1.5 miles into town today (baring in mind I haven't regularly walked anywhere since a looooooong time ago) and then walked about for about an hour before walking the 1.5 miles back home again! I'm so impressed with myself. Yes my legs hurt now, especially my knees, but I still feel good :-)
  • Well done Natasha! You should be impressed! Next time it will be easier...and before you know it 1.5 miles will be your warm up before the real walking begins! I love the way walking makes me feel - it gives me such a buzz and life seems so much happier and brighter!
  • Way to go Curly, it'll get easier with time...
  • How about kid's videos? Or mom& baby videos?

My daughter and I did all the Marsha Wenig Yoga ones when she was a baby/toddler.

You can see what www.collagevideo.com has in the specialty

I'm liking Kym Lyons because it's 20-30 min and doesn't take up huge living room space. I got that at collagevideo

  • You can also buy a pair of adjustable dumbells and do some weight exercises with that, including some bodyweight exercises.

If you do them in a controlled fashion, you shouldn't have to make much noise ;-)
