I'm giving up

  • my scale that is

I'm tired of that machine telling me how to feel every morning. So I'm going to use my measuring tape and my fave jeans to determine how well I am doing. I might jump on once every couple of weeks I think but as for everyday....forget it! I know what I need to do and I am doing it.
  • Until a few weeks ago, I tracked my weight loss by dress size. Like you I was easily discouraged by the scale and seemingly lac of progress. Plus, since my overall goal is to get healthy, the numbers didn't matter quite so much. When I finally caved and weighed myself I actually cried tears of joy since I really was expecting a 40-50 lbs loss, and it was actually closer to 100lbs. For me not tracking the weight loss in the beginning seemed to work because I couldn't get discouraged. Now that I've lost so much every pound seems like a major accomplishment and is an extra motivation.

Best of luck on your journey!
  • Wow thats awesome! Good work!
  • Katielou - I am going to do that after I am done with induction. I did this diet years ago and my favorite thing was trying on my clothes and finding new things that fit me as I lost inches. I just tried on a pair of jeans last night that fit me 3 weeks ago and I could hardly button them...thus just another reason for finally taking the plunge and starting my diet. I can't wait till I can slip them on and have them fit comfortably.
  • I do both the scale & the clothes, but the clothes gives me a MUCH bigger rush than the scale ever does!
  • katie, I am not on Atkins, but I am giving up my scale until February 1. I am not weighing ANYWHERE until then. I am on my last 10 pounds and I have just been playing with it..... so the scale has to go (just to see if it helps).

  • Hi Katie,

You fooled me with your subject line, LOL! I haven't weighed myself because I still haven't bought a new battery for my digital scale (I need to make a list of all the things I have to buy). My Mom told me my face is thinner and I noticed my arms are much thinner compared to before. I hated the way my arms looked with all that fat around them, yuck!! So glad to see them looking slimmer. Tummy has gone down too!

  • Oh, gosh, that subject line made me go "oh, no!" until I read your whole post, LOL!

That sounds like a smart decision, to care more about your health and how you feel, how your clothes fit etc. than a number on a machine.

It sounds like something I ought to do, except that I have absolutely no willpower so I can't not weigh myself unless I throw the scale away entirely, and that's not fair to my DH who likes to weigh himself daily.

Best of luck to you on your continuing journey to the happiest and healthiest new you, ever!
  • weighing everyday was a bad idea to begin with, especially since your body weight varies from day to day without dieting. There are just so many variables. I have been on Atkins since the 5th of this month and have weighed myself every monday just to make sure I am meeting my 5 lb. a week goal. This is what keeps me from slacking off. Weighing everyday however, as good of an idea as that may sound at first can definitely become discouraging. However, I do know someone who weighs themself in the morning and then again at night to discourage themselves from cheating. I guess it really is just what works for you... Good luck!
