Question Hit a Plateau

Hey everyone. I am happy I found this site. I am 24. A mother to 3 ages 3, 18mnths and 3mnths. My family is my life. I gained most of the weight w/ my 1st pregnancy. But I have been overweight my whole life.

I started at 250 in August 09 and I am down to 199. Yey no more 200s!!!
But I have hit a plateau and dont know what to do!!

I am currently doing slim fast and lost 4lbs but nothing since the 1st week,3 weeks ago.
I hope to get down to 140 eventually. That would put my BMI at a healthy number.
Good Luck everyone!

Hi psychologymama!
Congrats on your success so far ( and with your hands full with your precious babies!) - the support you need is here - you can do this - and we'll all be here to cheer you on!

Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated, inspired and entertained!

There's also info and first hand advice on different plans to help you choose the right one for you and get through the ups and downs. For instance I have read posts that say to break through a plateau you may need to change what or how much you're eating - you may not be eating enough (I know it sounds crazy!) - your body may slow down or stop weight loss because it thinks it's in starvation mode. Browse through the different forums to see what those who have successfully gotten past their plateaus have to say - it might just help you too.

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here a few months myself, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of cheating or giving up.

So welcome - you 've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired!

Plateaus are terrible. Our bodies want to stay fat!

When I plateau, it often correlates with my menstrual cycle. I can ALWAYS expect to NOT-lose one week before my period and the week of my period. Then I will notice a small loss once my period is said and done.

Hi there,
I'm so happy you found this site. Plateaus are so frustrating, but look how far you have already come. Congratulations on that! Maybe changing your routine some might help. Our bodies adjust to one way of doing things. Maybe switching something around might help. Look at the different threads for ideas. There are a lot of very successful people here.

Again, welcome!

After counting calories and trying to exercise every day for five months, I'm finally starting to realize that weight loss is very much a roller coaster, not a straight slide. I feel much better realizing that the plateaus will end; I'm doing the right things, and it will work sooner or later.

Sooner or later can be very frustrating. I was once 140. And even then I did not think very highly of myself. I now realize I looked great and should have felt great. Being 200 and once 250, I just want to feel good about myself. So these plateaus need to come and GO! heh
