Default Exercise - does your body HAVE to have a rest day?

Assuming you're not overdoing it during your workout sessions, is it unhealthy to exercise every day? I mean, is it detrimental not to give your body a rest day during the week, or should you try to get some cardio in every day?

I am going to say it's good to get exercise everyday as long as everyday isn't a balls out session. Pretty much just having a light day where you go for a fast walk or a light run.

I do cardio basically everyday..unless my life doesnt permit it... I have gone to the gym the past 11 days in a row... I think it's what your body is capable of and if you have the time to do it everyday... I just like keeping it in my schedule

I think the most important thing is to not do the same thing everyday. The major advantage of cross-training is you can workout more days without putting as much stress on your body. And if you do take an off day it can be an "active rest" day, meaning you find things to keep you moving like cleaning, shopping, etc.

I don't know...I know I surely do not have a rest day, unless you count Sunday where i only work out once a day instead of twice like every other day of the week. My coach has the team on this program though and I guess he's paid well enough to know what he's doing....I hope. Anyways, I would say that if you're used to it and are conditioned well enough to do it, why not? If not, work up to?

I have a rest day, mostly because my schedule with work, gym and study is exhausting But I think if you have the energy, you arent getting pains anywhere (other than the usual "oh ive used this muscle and now its a bit tender" pains) and you're taking care of things like joints, stretching plenty, it should be fine.

You get the most fitness gains during of times rest I've been told. It's not imperative to have a rest day weekly though, but always good to have at least one day where the workout is light (recovery workout)... and every now and then take the day off. If you have an extremely strenuous day where you have an all out effort it's probably not a bad idea to take a rest day after.

I agree with others above... I work out everyday, and do cardio 6x/week, but on Sundays I do pilates. It's an excellent workout for my abs/back, but its not my usual treadmill/spin/stairclimber cardio routines!

If your body doesn't feel like it needs it, then I don't think that's a problem with no rest day. Like the others said, probably do something different every day or every other day, but if your body isn't telling you to rest, go for it.

I don't think it's required, but I know mine really needs it, otherwise the quality of my workouts starts to suffer.
