Undereating for so long - effects permanant?

  • So I've been monitoring what I've been eating for the past two weeks, paying attention to every calorie, and I've noticed that I have a problem with under eating. Seems weird because I have been overweight most of my life, but I think me trying to correct this has just messed up my metabolism.

I'm going to start eating more and more often, but I'm wondering if it it's too late to re-correct the damage? If anyone has ever had this situation before. will I gain weight before I lose weight, or am I stuck at this really low calorie diet? Any other advice would help immensely!
  • what is undereating? how many calories?
  • 1100 -1300
    Though I should be averaging 1400 - 1600 as I do moderate - intense exercise 4 - 5 days a week.
I am starting to do this now, but just wanted to know if there was anyone with past experience with this.
  • I think 1100-1300 is a bit low. 1400 sounds more appropriate for you. Why do you think you will gain weight ? How many calories do you think you were eating to get to 198 ?
  • I have always fluctuated between 180 and 220 ever since I was in middle school -- I am now a junior in college. It's been a cycle of overeating unhealthy foods to under eating with healthy foods to compensate.

It's a topic I'm going to bring up with my trainer next meet, but thanks guys.
  • I don't think the damage is too long term and the body can usually bounce back as long as you didn't go overboard- I mean sounds like you weren't anorexic to the point you were hospitalized or lost teeth or something- so yes I think you can bounce back.
  • have you gone to your doctor...have you had your thyroid checked? i was the same way...and always told my doctor that my life was a "Diet" and no lost of weight he sent ne to lab and found that I had Hashimoto's Disease I am on meds now and have lost about 75lbs I am still 215lbs and not at my ideal weight but I am working at it and I am sure there is always a correction no harm done...
