HI! I have type 1! And coincidentially, I am originally from NoVa. I grew up in Manassas, what about you?
It sure is difficult and feels so wrong to slam down Coke or orange juice just because your workout drove your sugar down a bit too low. It definitely makes things more tough all the way around, and yes... adjustments are a pain in the butt. I am not on a pump, but I still had to figure out my new insulin to carb ratio and how much Lantus to take in the morning and evening while losing weight. It's a big numbers game.
What I do is make sure my blood sugar is a little bit high (200something) before working out. This usually works pretty well. The other suggestion I have is to make sure you are taking no more insulin than your body needs. Unexpected lows are sometimes unavoidable, but there are precautions you can take. Also , I have gotten VERY neurotic about testing... I will test almost every hour if I have the chance. Knowing exactly where your sugar is at will keep you from going too far in either direction.
If you have to treat a low, just remember to count the calories of whatever you used and figure it in your plan for the day. It's annoying, because you could have EATEN those calories and been much more satisfied, but it's a part of our lives as type 1 diabetics.
BUT... trust me... it CAN be done.

Feel free to PM me any time... I am always here for support and advice.
