I wear 252 lbs. Most fitness equipment has a limit of 250 lbs. i realize i'm only 2 lbs over, but i dont want to spend money on something that is going to collapse under the weight of me.
does anyone know of any treadmills or ellipticals that can hold more than 250 lbs? i would really like to spend under $500 if possible.
running outside is not an option, nor is going to the gym.
I weighed 275 when I bought an elliptical from walmart that was around 179.00....it said up to 250 lbs but held up great for me...I had it for 2 years.
I weigh 300+ lbs and I had to buy a treadmill with more power. I didn't read any good reviews on machines that cost less than $500. The Sole treadmill is a great piece of equipment, but pricey. It's what I have and the F85 is rated for users of 350+, which means I will eventually be able to jog on it. But look around to see if you can find a used one. Otherwise, check Craig's List, or a place called Sports Authority for sales on reconditioned equipment.
If your budget is $500 or less, I'd avoid buying an elliptical unless you can find a good deal via Craigs list. Elliptical are tricky machines and really its hard to make a good quality elliptical and they cost a bunch. Many of the inexpensive ones aren't designed to last and may actually cause pain.
With treadmills, you can get a better deal but I know less about treadmills.
Horizon Fitness makes an inexpensive treadmill ($499 from Amazon) that supports up to 275lb. They have a pretty good reputation. I bought this model from Amazon for the office, and it was shipped free.
I think pretty much all Nordictrack treadmills go up 300 pds, even their lower model ones. I would check their website. I know quite a few people that own a Nordictrack and are really happy with it. I just wish I had more room in my apartment for one :-(
2lbs is not going to break it! But I do agree with avoiding ellipticals under $500. I've looked into them and they all felt so cheap. When you get going too fast they feel like they are going to flip over! I know you said no gym. But for you or anyone else out their who thinks they can't afford to go to the gym, the YMCA has a scholarship you can apply for if you make under $40,000/year to get a reduced rate. I pay $20/month no start-up fee (you can pay monthly or all at once). They determine the rate based on your financial need. If you live near one, it doesn't hurt to apply
