Default LA Fitness Scammed Me!!!!

I am so angry right now!!!!!!!

There is a new LA Fitness opening up in my area this summer. I called for membership information. I was going to put a deposit down to hold the "special" price and gave them my credit card number. Later into the conversation, my husband told me not to complete it over the phone, to go in to the office and get a signed contract first.

So I told them not to run my card, I wanted to come in first, and made an appointment. I later canceled my appointment because I decided I wanted to see the class schedule before I signed up.

Well, the day after we spoke they charged me $70, even though I said to wait. Then, yesterday they charged me $370!!!!! What??? The place isn't open, I don't have any paperwork, and that number doesn't add up to what I was originally quoted!

So I looked into it online, apparently LOTS of people have had issues like this, and have a hard time canceling their membership, even though it's month to month.

I called last Friday about the $70 and was told I'd be called back, never got a call. So I called again this morning after seeing another $370 on my card, and the guy hung up on me!

This is not the type of company I want to support. Just trying to warn you in case you are thinking about joining an LA Fitness, be careful, because I got scammed!

And you're %100 percent sure it's the actual company, and not just a scam using the companies name? Either way that seriously sucks. Small claims court?

It's the company, all of the contact info I have/used is listed on their site.

I'm disputing the charges on my credit card, I'm pretty sure they will refund me as I didn't give authorization, and I received no services. Heck, the place isn't even open!

Of course, it made me go over my limit too.....

I would call your credit card company to see if they can reverse the charges... it is worth a try. Good luck to you.

Wow that is ridiculous! I hope everything goes well with disputing the charges. Is the bank going to make sure no future charges go through too?

I know we have one of those clubs pretty close to the area we just moved to, but when I looked into them, there seemed to be an unusually high number of complaints about kinda shady billing or cancellation issues. It kind of scared me into looking elsewhere. I don't get how a company can stay in business and pull stuff like that. Then again, hopefully it's not the norm....

ok, contact the better business bureau people immediately. Also, talk to your bank, tell them whats up, what happened. They should, deposit the money back into your account for you while they deal with this for you; when its cleared up and the company redeposits the money back into your account, the bank will take what they gave you back....

No guarantee - but i had a company take money out of my account after i'd cancelled their order. I had online transcripts of the conversation and they kept running me around, my husband rang, asked for a manager, they said they didnt have any. So i contacted the BBB and my bank and they dealt with it for me
