Chicken Soup Calories??

  • Hi Everyone!
I am having a huge issue. I made chicken soup last night. I boiled a whole chicken in water, stripped the chicken from the bone and cooked it with onions, carrots and celery. How many calories per cup of soup do y'all think this would be?
    Thanks
    Kate
  • per Nutrition Data website, they have listed "Soup, vegetable chicken, canned, prepared with water, low sodium" as 166 calories per cup.

  • I would add the calories for each individual veggie, and then for the chicken pieces (measure or estimate how much went in). For the broth, I would measure or estimate how much went in, and then look up calories for chicken broth and add that as well.

I wouldnt use the canned soup numbers, because it likely included calories for noodles, and your soup doesnt have noodles.
  • Or you can strain out say 1/4 cup of chicken veggie mix, count it as a 1/4 of chicken and then scoop out 1 cup of broth on top of that. That should be pretty easy to count.
  • And did you leave the skin on? That would have added to the fat count.
  • Put the soup in the fridge over night so all the fat will congeal on the surface and take it all out before reheating... that really helps.
