Me and the hubby go see movies on a pretty regular basis it's always so hard to resist the buttery pop corn and nacho's and boxes of candy! Today I came prepared! I know your not supposed to bring your own food in.. but... I popped a bag of 100 cal pop corn at home brought it in a baggie and stuck it in my purse, and brought a 100 calorie candy bar for each of us. and then we bought one big diet coke there. So me and my hubby split the pop corn (50 cals each and each had a candy bar (100 cals) so for only a 150 cals I still got to eat all the good stuff! and got to enjoy my treats a little less guiltless!
Do any of you do this or have any other ideas? I tried to look online how much movie theater popcorn with the butter would be I thought maybe we could share a small one and fit it in today but there was so many different results through the daily plate I figured better safe then sorry! Does any one know about how much a small popcorn would be with butter?

I'm not sure how much the movie theatre popcorn with butter would be.. but that's a great idea to bring those 100cal packs! I always bring my own stuff when I go to the movies because the lines are waaay too long to buy anything there and nothing is even remotely healthy. Usually I bring some cut up apples with cinnamon. If anyone asks I'd just say I have some severe food allergies so I can't eat anything they sell because they can't guarantee it doesn't have something I'm allergic. It's partially true lol I have allergies, but none that severe lol.
I also always bring my own. Also for my kids.So expensive to buy in theater.I bring a big purse full of candy(for kids). And I bring popcorn mixed with almonds and dry fruit. Also bring my own bottled water.
I bring pickles sometimes. I always bring in a venti iced coffee. I have spilt it my purse a few times, but very low cal. I have mine with a little creamer is all. Worth about two points. There is that Indiana brand of popcorn with the flavor sea salt that is awesome. Sometimes I bring gummy bears or strawberries. A little bit of chocolate isn't bad, like I will bring a bunch of just plain old dark Ghiradelli's chocolate morsels. Between bites of the sweet and salty I am happy.
In sandwhich baggies, I will put almonds, raisens, goldfish, or something that I normally snack on. I have even pop 100 calorie popcorn, put it in my purse and ate that with a bottle of water.
I usually don't eat anything at the movies (too expensive anyway), but what a good point - you are right there is nothing healthy there. They should offer some healthier options or change the no bring food in policy so people can bring in healthier food.
I usually get a small popcorn and call it a treat, but I don't go to the movies that often. I was thinking a small bag of nuts or maybe even a healthy trail mix would be a good idea. I like the gold fish idea also. I don't feel guilty at all about sneaking snacks in, since what they charge for a small bag of popcorn is absolutely highway robbery.
I take in my own popcorn too. I like the Orville Redenbockers Smart Pop Kettle Corn. Call me a pig but last time I ate the entire bag for 240 calories!
I would like to take my own popcorn, but I don't carry a purse (I'm a man so it would be tough to pull it off). Plus the theater I go to is pretty vigilant about not allowing outside food.
BTW, I went to see a movie with my kids this weekend. I tried buying a small popcorn, 1 water, 1 small diet soda to share among 2 kids and an adult. The girl at the counter says to me, you know, it would cost you a dollar less if you buy a large popcorn and a large soda (plus you get free refills). Huh??? In what universe does it actually cost more to buy less of the same product. So I asked her to give me the large popcorn and large soda but put it in the small containers.
Add me to the list of popcorn smugglers. I will make up 2 bags of the 100 calorie kettle corn (love that stuff), dump it into a 1 gal ziplock and sneak it in a tote bag that looks like a large purse. I do buy a diet soda, so I'm not a total freeloader. That will last me through the entire movie for 200 calories. I shudder to think what the movie theater popcorn calorie count would be. If they offered air-popped, no-butter-added, low salt popcorn, in reasonable (not industrial-sized) portions, I would certainly buy it! I guess there's not much call for that, eh?
I just get a bottle of water and sip on that while listening to everyone munching and crunching. I eat before I go or we visit a nice restaurant before the movie.
I don't feel the need to eat while watching movies at home so I don't like to let myself get into the mindset that it is okay to eat while watching movies out of the house. That was how I got to over 400 lbs. The movie is now my treat.

AMEN SISTER! Exactly!
Eating during a movie, (or TV) is mindless eating and something we are desperately trying to get away from. If you can absolutely not make it through a movie without mindless eating, maybe you need to get a new hobby for awhile until you can change that mindset. Its kind of like a recovering alcoholic trying to smuggle watered down drinks into a bar....

Well, I am really and truly allergic to xyz. "When I eat xyz, I tend to break out - in fat".
I'm not a big movie fan. On the rare occasions that I do, baby carrots, grape tomatoes and string beans always do it for me.
You've got to hand it to movie theater owners for successfully spending 70 years indoctrinating us to believe that we're supposed to eat while at the movies. (And that certain foods are particularly appropriate.)
When I go to a play, a musical, the opera or a classical music concert, no one eats during the performances, and they last as long as a feature film, if not longer. So the audience is supposed to be okay with not eating for that span of time ... but it's not okay to sit through a movie without snacking.
A bottle of water for me & a stick of gum or an apple.
