I ran a mile!!

  • I am so proud of myself. For several months now, I have not so much focused on a number on the scale -- I quit smoking 10 months ago (look for another post on my year anniversary! lol) and I have really been focusing on clean, balanced eating and most importantly... something I have *never* done consistently... EXERCISE.

So, I have been exercising -- and I ran a whole mile today without stopping or feeling like poop. Typically, I walk/bike/yoga etc -- but for some reason, running the mile felt like such an accomplishment.

My ultimate goal is to run a 10k eventually.

Weigh in tomorrow, and I know I will be in the 2's as well (I sneaked on the scale today lol) ... so that is another thing I am proud of.

    Thanks so much for listening.
  • Wow! Congrats! That's a really big achievement!
  • That's wonderful! Keep it up!!!!
  • Nice Job! I just got into running as well about 3 months again and ran my first 5k today. It's so much fun!
  • way to go!!! I hope to reach that goal of a running a mile someday without feeling wiped, too!
  • That is really very wonderful! A mile is quite an accomplishment. Keep up all your good work.
  • That is so great!

I also quit smoking about 10 months ago and have recently started to feel like I can run a bit. I try and jog through the commercials on tv when I am using the treadmill. I always thought the commercials lasted roughly two minutes but sometimes they last 4 minutes...thats quite a bit of jogging when added together so hopefully I can get to a point like you where I can go a mile at a stretch.

    Sorry to ramble, again, congrats!
  • Great job! Keep up the great work!
  • Way to go!
  • That's a huge accomplishment.. I think when i can run even a km I'd be singing in the streets!!
  • it's a huge accomplishment!
    great job!

I'm running a 4 mile in July - I haven't hit 4 miles yet but I'll get there. Each mile is an accomplishment - and if you can do one, you WILL be able to do another!
  • Thanks everyone, I am now up to a pretty consistent 1.5 now and I feel so darn good!

    This site is so encouraging!
  • There was this run we had to do in high school - the bridge run. 1.6 miles, down to a bridge and back. In high school, I watched EVERY pass me by while I walked it (The weight/my health was part of it, but I also had knee issues).

The first time I ran 1.6, I burst into tears. I understand what a HUGE accomplishment that is and how wonderful it feels to meet a milestone like that.
  • Thank you so much -- so true -- the mile in school you have to run for the presidential physical fitness or some such -- and I *always* walked, behind everyone else. So, you get it.

I saw your progress pictures, you are doing SO GREAT...congratulations!!!
  • Sometimes I get so darn frustrated. Running looks SO easy for some people. I was observing folks today running the track at the gym. They're running with partners, having conversations...Sigh. It's so hard for me.

It will get better. Have to take my time. These people have been running for a long time. And, they're not overweight!
