I am on fire!!

  • I started WW on Sunday after 5.5 mos of eating NS's prepared foods...and I have to say...I like cooking again!! Or more specifically I like eating a variety of home cooked meals again!! Since joining I have made (all from WW recipes) asparagus and barley "risotto" with balsamic vinegar, chicken and feta grilled burgers, mediteranean chicken (really garlicky lemon with fresh oregano marinage...SO good!) with roasted baby potatos, and feta and spinich stuffed chicken breasts! Some of it I prepared in advance so I'd have food on hand and my hubby who works nights can start having real dinners again!! Poor guy has been living off sandwiches while I ate a microwaved meal!

Anyhoo...I joined online and there's some great recipes there! I'm going to try Thai rice with pineapple and shrimp, sweet corn and shrimp cakes and the greek style egg rolls with a garli dill dipping sauce next!!

    Who'd a thunk I'd be a cooker!!
  • Whoo Hoo Kiki! I too discovered cooking again when I started ww and you are right the recipes here are awesome, I have tried many --some we like, some we love and some were just ok. I also went to a used book store and found some older ww recipe books that I bought and I purchased the master cook software. Then I put the things we like in it, it calculates the nutritional value so I can calculate the pts. then I print it off and put on my frig. each week we shuffle through them and plan a weeks worth of dinners. That way I know what to buy and they know what we are eating LOL

Of course we have been known to deviate from the list if there is a change in plans but it works well

glad to see you on board!
  • love the idea of keeping a list and doing the shopping ahead of time. A weeks worth of planning would really help keep me on track! It's that "I'm starving and must eat now but have nothing" mode that gets me in trouble all the time!!

My hubby is happy I'm cooking again but the kids aren't too pleased with the healthier menu. They'll get over it!!
  • I bet there are a lot of recipes you find here and in other cookbooks that are so similar to other foods you use to cook they will hardly know the difference!
  • kids like healthly grilled cheese! Not to mention its so quick and easy..2% cheese , light bread and promise butter is only 5 calories..it can be an easy and yumyy 2 pt sandwich, sometimes i have two of them with a cup of healthy request tomatoe soup and feel like im cheating!
  • LOVE the grilled cheese idea! Thanks!! Tonight I made the yummiest greek style egg rolls with shrimp, rice, tomatoes and feta...SO good! But the kids had plain rice, broccoli and chicken fingers. And they didn't like that much either!! They are so fussy!! I'm on that grilled cheese!!

...and you're right Nancy, some are better versions of the guilty originals and they are so good you'd never know the difference!!!
  • Michelle, your enthusiasm is contagious! Congrats on your loss so far, and I have no doubt you will reach your goal.
  • Michelle
Wow. You are really into it! Great job! I have never really cooked in the past. However, I joined Weight Watchers 3 weeks ago and that's all I have been doing since. I cook pretty simple things. Much of what you listed sounds great and makes me want to get even more into it. Your weight loss is also very encouraging for me! Congratulations!
