Default P90X - trying it out

Hi,
There was a post from '07 about P90X, but I wanted to start a new thread.

I have been obsessing over P90X since I first saw the commercial for it over 1.5 years ago. Well, I finally got the program 5 days ago (the best Christmas gift ever from my hubby).

I've been taking photos of myself since I began and am hoping to see some sort of results. I am not doing the nutrition plan included with it, because I have been doing a modified South Beach for as long as I can remember. I stopped eating healthy when I got pregnant (ummm, I needed those cupcakes!) and am now returning back to a healthy eating plan (drab!).

Has anyone else tried P90X recently and seen results? I'm not expecting my world to change, but do expect some sort of results. So far I am loving the program, and am really hoping to post my pics 90 days from now with some cool results.

I used to be a huge exerciser. 2x a day - Running 3 miles in the morning and then an afternoon exercise class. But that's about 2 years and 30 pounds ago!!! So I am definitely starting from scratch!

Hi, I moved your thread to the Fitness Video forum. There have been a couple recent threads about P90X and thought you would get more information here.

Smile P90x

I invested in P90X after doing Ab Ripper X a few times at the gym with some of the guys there. One of the guys' brother is an avid supporter, so I invested in the program.

Granted, I've not been doing it religiously... I plan on jumping into the full training program they recommend. I can say that the Ab Ripper X video has done wonders for my midsection. I could feel the difference within a week. I went ahead and bought the whole line including the chin-up bar, the recovery drinks and vitamins. Love the drink, love the core synergy dvd & kenpo is a blast.

I'm sold on it. I think if ya buy into it, it works wonders.

Also, where do you get dumbbells and not pay like a million dollars? I can't be driving around to garage sales, craigslist is ok and I'm about to try freecycle. Should I just get like 2 sets or whatever I need right now and add stuff later? The thing that kills me is I KNOW people have weight sets rotting in their garages and I just need them for 90 days.

I'm on week 3! I'm excited to move onto the next 30 days because I am SO sick of chest&back. I will admit it's only on Chest&Back day that I skip Ab Ripper X. Gahh. Getting enough motivation to get through that many freakin' push-ups is hard enough without getting the motivation to do the scissors move on Ab Ripper X. XP

I also don't do Yoga. Blegh. I don't know how Tony did it, but I love Yoga.. But I hate Yoga X. It makes me want to punch an adorable kitten 10 minutes into it. (Kitten punching = Not cool. So I skip Yoga X and replace it with a different exercise video of my choice.)

kamesennin - Have you tried Walmart? It's not super pricey there, I think. I would defiantly reccomend resistance bands, though. They're just as good, only cheaper, and you can adjust it as you get stronger without having to go buy more (usually, anyway.)

Oh god there was no way I could have done the Ab Ripper on day 1. I tried it today on day 3 but I pretty much felt like I was a lead weight in a swimming pool so I just tried to keep up as best as I could! I think I need more sleep.

Thanks for the Walmart suggestion! I never would have thought of going there for weights. You know I gave the bands a try and they really work. I was skeptical at first but I feel like I engage more of my core with them so that is sooo good. I have many donuts around my belly. LoL

I'm not much for yoga either so I think I'll just do my Callanetics dvd instead. It's mostly stretching and I need a lot of that right now.

bucket, did you do this much exercise before you started and how long did it take to get used to it? It's hard for me to make sure to put in the time (I know it will be worth it!) every day.

I love the bands for pretty much everything! I don't really care for them for things like Extention stuff, but otherwise, they're freakin' gnarly, and I have yet to replace the current pair I have. >w<

For your question: Depends. The first time I ever tried P90x, got through 3/4 of the lean version, and I ended up quitting. I did turbo jam only before that. Following that I've done my own variety of exercise, and then did Chalean Extreme. Looove Chalean Extreme because it really prepped me for P90x. I'm now doing Classic version on P90x (occasional double day, though), and even though Chalean Extreme defiantly has helped, I'm still finding P90x to be a butt kicker.

It takes me around 1-2 weeks to get used to a routine, to be honest. By then it's just another thing in my daily routine and I don't really debate with myself about it. I've heard many people do P90x in the morning, but I personally could never do that. I always do it around 6-8PM. Anything before and after just does not work for me. Defiantly play around with the schedule times until you find that "special" time slot for you. :3

You also might want to consider writing down on some index cards all the advantages of making time to do P90x everday, and review it in the morning and before you plan to workout. It's incredibly helpful to keeping you on schedule and very motivating!

are you all doing the chinups? I have never been able to do a pullup, even back in school when they had those tests in gym class, (I've always been overweight too)... I don't think I'll ever really be able to do a chinup like the people in workouts are doing!

I reeeeally want a pull-up bar. I use the bands option of it, but it's still a challenge. A pull-up bar seems like it'd be much more difficult. I was even considering going to a park and seeing if I could even do one on some monkey bars since I've never been able to do a pull-up in my life. XD

I have the chin-up bar and love it. There are some weight exercises that I prefer my curl bar to free weights and the bands... so I just substitute it in. I love Ab Ripper X, along with the kenpo and core video. They feel like little rewards compared to some of the others. The plyo video is a blast too... definitely feel dead afterwards!

Do any of you take the vitamins or ue the recovery drink? I have both, but right now am only using the recovery drink. I love the flavor, but am unsure of
how much it really does for me.

But keep up the good work!! 90 days to a super fit you!
