Default starting again (better than not starting!)

starting again having gone just over 14st (196 lbs) for the second time in the last year (14st2 last week). down to 13st11 now (193 lbs).
mini-goal is to get below 13st (182lbs) or into the 170s (179 would get my BMI below 30), maybe by may 1st? that sounds like a really long time but it's probably realistic.. i usually find it pretty easy to get to 13st5 and then not much happens beyond that..

i'm kind of calorie counting but not methodically...just eating what i know is well under 1500, which is alright for the first few days but i'll have to be more careful about calculating my intake properly..eating mainly wholegrains (brown rice, quinoa), vegtables, pulses and fish, with occasional meat (had two rashers for breakfast, yum yum) and i think the most important thing otherwise is not drinking, which i do in great volume and suspect is the main reason i've put on so much weight, i don't eat sweets, takeaways, crisps etc. very often.

anyway kind of a dull post but now my goal is in writing

hope you're all going well with your plans!

Good luck with the restart. It's not easy this dieting thing. For most of us I think it will always be a part of life. You sound like you have a good plan going. Just watching the calories for awhile without be too restrictive usually works for me when I need to lose a couple of pounds. I'm not a big drinker, and when I do drink, I almost always eat whatever I want (which is a lot) and never think twice about it. I regret it the next day though.
Your food sounds good- I eat a lot of vegetables, fish, chicken, brown rice, sweet potato and fruit. I really do like this type of food anyway, it's just keeping my portions in control now.
Good luck with reaching your goal, YOU CAN DO IT!!

I've also started back on the wagon - lost nearly 3 stones a year ago before I lapsed, and at my last weigh-in I was a stone heavier than last time I started to diet - DOH!
Have joined my local community fit club, which includes two exercises classes, gym or swimming sessions and am also using the stairs at work instead of the lift (it's 8 floors up so hopefully that will start to have an effect soon). Can't say I'm too thrilled at the lack of those tasty but nasty carbs in my diet though - 4 days and counting since I ate a crisp, and 3 days since I had bread. What I wouldn't give for garlic bread right now!

Hello everyone. I'm starting properly (I hope) for the first time. I'm hoping to lose between 3 and 4 stone, aiming to drop 13lb by Valentines Day.

I know I'm a serial fadder, I can never keep my mind to something, so I joined this site in hope of some motivation!!

Good luck to you all

That's why I like calorie counting- if you really want something you can have it you just have to make up for it! I'm starting again too- I've not got loads to lose but it still isn't going to disappear on its own! Good luck people.

Had my first weigh-in last week - lost 5lb!
Can't say I'm enjoying the exercise, but it's my own fault for not booking a gym induction yet, swimming would be okay if it wasn't for everyone else in the pool being in my way

I used Fitday.com (it's free!) because it will figure out the calories but also you can keep checking your protein intake etc. It's easy to kid yourself with 'healthy' food, that you're taking in less calories - you may be. But you might not be, too! You'll find if you add in exercise to the mix, you should do just fine and maybe when you plateau around 13st 5, that will start heading back down, sooner.

13st 5.... sounds massive compared to all the starving celebrity size zeros but I would be perfectly happy with that...

I lost a stone over christmas, but soon twinkling lights, bottles of smirnoff and wayyy too many chocolates led to me gaining, only 4lbs, but still its enough, so I am getting back on the band wagon and aim to lose a stone by september for my 18th.

Well done everyone who's starting again. We can do it!!

Hi,
Froggie's post could have been written by me! I too have crept up to 14 stones and have just joined WW on line. I am shocked that I over ate by 9 points on my first day! I have so much to learn about portion sizes and fat...
I agree with Froggie that booze helps us to put on weight over time coz it opens up your appetite and also provides empty calories.
I have decided to become teetotal, at least until I am 10 stones. (I shall have completely forgoten the taste and effects by then, I reckon).
Anyone else doing Weight Watchers? How are you adjusting to the WW way of life?

you callin' me old?
not doing so well on the teetotalism so far, have fallen off the wagon twice, very spectacularly...but at least i'm getting back on it afterwards. 10 stone seems a loooooooooooong way away...jeez, i thought i was so fat when i went over ten stone a few years back...when i went over 9, for that matter.

planning to get some exercise started, resistance bands and body weight exercises - stuff i can do at home. will see how that pans out since i'm great at planning exercise but not so good at actually doing it. although since i don't have to go out in the nasty weather it might be easier to do.
