Thin4Life - Week of 11/3/08

  • Good afternoon ladies! A very quick post. I am leaving tomorrow to see my doctor in Portland, OR (the leukemia specialist) so I will not be able to chat this week. I hope you all have great weeks!
  • Lori, Thanks for starting the thread. Hope you have a safe trip and hear good news.

Went to vote this morning. I got there about 6:35 and there were about 30 people ahead of me. I was in out in about 7 minutes. The line was really long. It was great to see. The last primary we had there was a 27% turnout.

I don't know why I did this, but last night I tried on all of my pants. It was eye-opening. I need to lose this 5-7 pounds. I'm not motivated!! One pair of pants used to zip easily and now I can't even zip them.
  • I voted too! I was in and out in 5 minutes, but I went around 9:30. The polling place was only about 4 blocks from my house.

Lisa - Did trying on the pants motivate you at all?
  • Good morning! I went to vote when the polls opened at 7 am and was #7...there were a number of people behind me. From what I heard on the news last evening PA is the state they're watching.

Lisa: Try not to be discouraged about the pants--it's hard to stay motivated and sometimes to even get there--it will come you just can't force it unfortunately.

Lori: Have a safe trip to Portland!

This weekend was pretty crazy. My dad had another spell on Saturday where he lost his balance and fell and we had to watch him closely. Sunday he seemed better but yesterday morning when he got up he couldn't keep his balance. He was confused and couldn't really grasp things...it's so hard to see him that way. We ended up taking him to the ER and he was admitted; from there he will be going to a rehab facility where they will evaluate him but it's our understanding that he will be going to a long-term care facility. It's really not safe for him at home because he insists on going up and down the steps which is not good. In the midst of this my brother called to tell me and his girlfriend/long-time companion died yesterday morning. They were together for 14 years; as he said she's no longer in pain. Talk about being on a roller coaster ride the past few days!

I'll try and post more later.
  • Melissa, Yes, Pennsylvania is an important state. So sorry about your father's condition and your brother's GF. It is so difficult to see our parents who were always the strong ones have their problems. A long-term care facility is probably best, but I would bet that he will fight it. We gave up on DH's mother. She just didn't want to hear about it.
  • Lisa: My dad is so out of it that I don't really think he totally has absorbed what is going on. I just met my mom at Starbucks and she said he's been sleeping and barely ate. That's what happened on Saturday. The doctor said he has a lot going on. I think he's going to be in the hospital for a few days to get things under control.

It's absolutely gorgeous here today--it's 73 and sunny. My walking buddy and I got outside over the lunch hour for a nice long walk, it felt so good!
  • Hi Ladies,

I voted before I went to work this morning and the line was longer than I ever remember it being. Yes PA is a very important state in this race.

Lori good luck at your appointment and travel safely!

Melissa sorry about all the bad news. I don't remember your brothers girlfriend being ill. What a difficult loss for him. How is your Mom handling your Dads illness?
Our temperatures have been unseasonably warm and I got a nice walk in myself today. Doesn't look too promising for the rest of the week though, rain headed our way.

Lisa Ughhh. I can relate with the pants. That's what happened to me this past summer with shorts. Only 2 pairs fit comfortably. I took Melissa's advice last week and got the candy out of the house so that's a start.

Well ladies I've got to get home and watch the election results. Should be interesting. Talk to you tomorrow.
  • Melissa, Well, maybe it's a blessing if your dad doesn't know what's going on. How sad for your mother though. I'm glad you've been able to walk. It was chilly here this morning--low 60's.

Pam, I stayed up for a little while last night watching the results and I'm sad (nuf said). Some of my local people won, so I'm happy about that. Yes, I need to stay away from the candy and the chips and the cookies (get my drift?)
  • Hi Ladies,

I'm tired this morning from staying up so late watching the election results. I don't envy our new President, he's got a lot of work to do.

I'm really not liking the time change. Now that's it darks when I get home from work I just want to put on my PJ's and sit around and watch TV and nibble. I think I'm going to change my gym schedule from afternoon to after work.

I've got a lot going on at work. We purchased a new lease database and the installation process is really getting to me. It's hard to keep the day to day stuff going at the same time.

Well ladies time for some lunch, I think we have chicken soup in our cafe today so that might be a good choice. Talk to you tomorrow.
  • Pam, I, too, am having trouble with the time change. I wake up each morning at 4:30 instead of 5:30.
  • Good morning!

The time change is affecting me too...I've been waking up around 5 am and then toss and turn for the next hour or so. I really don't like the fact that it gets dark so early.

I'm so glad all the political ads are done--it was getting tiring! I don't envy anyone in office these days, they have a lot to deal with.

My dad had a clear day yesterday and was mad that he is being moved to a nursing care facility. I went down to see him last night and he started crying and "I'm not coming home" and I told him that it really is the for the best because I'm so afraid he's going to get hurt and that I won't be able to help him. I told him I need to know he's safe. There is so much going on...add onto all this my brother-in-law who has been battling cancer for 2 years this month was taken to the hospital last night. My DH had to go to his sister's to help her get him in the car and to the hospital. When he was diagnosed they had given him 6 months and it's been 2 years...when it rains it pours.

I'm off this afternoon for the funeral and tomorrow for a vacation day. DS #2's team is in the playoffs so we're traveling to the game tomorrow afternoon. I'm hoping the rain holds off for the game.

On a more positive note the weather continues to be beautiful and today it's supposed to get to 70 again. I also a had a loss at the scale yesterday...1.2#
  • Melissa Congrats on the 1.2# loss. I'm sorry you are dealing with so many sad issues. You're right when it rains it pours. Things will start improving. That must have been a difficult visit with your Dad last night. I'm sure he just wants to be home but he really does need to be where he is. I'll be thinking about you this afternoon. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Weather is rainy and dreary here but at least it's warm. I've got the entire weekend to myself since DH is going to Ohio tomorrow to visit his son. I've got a nice shopping trip planned for Saturday with one of my friends. Should be a great time.

Hi to Lisa and I hope Lori got good news from her doctors! Talk to you tomorrow.
  • Tomorrow's my off Friday, so won't be posting. I don't have anything planned for Friday, but Saturday will be busy with volunteering at a race, a play audition, and then yippee!! DH comes home from the Dominican Republic. I'm sure he'll have many interesting stories to tell.

Melissa, Goodness, you have had so much sadness. I'm sorry. To see your dad cry must have broken your heart. Congrats on the loss; that is awesome. You must have lost 10 + pounds in the past couple months, right?

Pam, Your shopping trip sounds like fun. Where in Ohio did your DH go? I'm originally from Youngstown, OH.

I hope to stay away from the snacks this weekend.
  • Good morning!

It's been quite the week to say the least. Yesterday we got the call that my husband's brother-in-law passed away. He was diagnosed 2 years ago with cancer and at that time had been given 6 months and he surpassed that. It truly is a blessing. I'm hoping this is the end of the bad news!

We traveled to DS #2's football game yesterday--the weather was beautiful so we took advantage and left a little early and stopped at the outlets and then went for an early dinner. It was a nice break from everything that was going on. The rain moved in just as the game started. They won so now we'll be in the district playoffs next weekend. It depends on how if Ifeel if I go to the game. My first hand surgery is Tuesday.

Lisa: Yes, I'm down almost 12# and I'm happy about that!

I'll try and post on Monday. Have a great weekend!
