Taking to GTT 3 hour to see if I am IR

  • Lat year, my Dr. ruled out PCOS, my blood levels did not indicate that I had it. Today, my dr decided to send me for teh 3hr GTT, not to measure blood sugar, but to measure the level of insulin in my blood. She thinks that I have too much insulin, and that insulin is making me store fat.. hence my slow weight loss and growing fat stomach.

I think she said that based on this test's results, she would put me on glucophage, and she said that it will be easy to lose weight on it.

She also is going to switch me from levoxly (synthroid) to Armour, b/c my body does not seem to be taking the synthroid up.

Has anyone else done this? I will be reading threads here, but any advice/stories woudl be appreciated!!! TIA
  • no one? If you are IR, how were you diagnosed? just on symptoms alone? TIA!
  • Hi Tiger:

My Dr. diagnosed me PCOS & Borderline Diabetes a little over 2 years ago. I had all the symptoms plus physical signs such as brown patches on the inside of my thighs and on my neck, shaking, etc. The regular blood test didn't show anything but she did a panel and I got a letter in the mail 3 weeks later telling me my diagnosis and that I had to see her. I too carry most of my weight in my stomach so I'm just curious if we have might be one in the same.

I know that probably doesn't answer anything you were wondering, I just wanted to let you know your not alone.
